In card games, there is a concept called 'card advantage'. You use up one card playing pot of greed and draw two, to give you a net of +1 card advantage with absolutely no drawback. Drawing two cards for free also lets you get the card you want more easily.
It was just a card that you had no reason not to play, and was hence considered too powerful. It took a 40-card deck and turned it into a 38-card deck, in a sense bypassing the 40-card minimum rule and making all strategies more consistent.

In any card games card advantage is something incredible. Since most aggressive decks rely on setting up whatever they want to do you will want to draw the cards needed as soon as fast, that's why there's a minimum limit of cards you have to put in a deck and 99% of good decks will never have more than that.
By having cards that gives you free cards you're basically building a deck with even less cards.

I play all 3, and of those 3 Yu-Gi-Oh is without doubt the most fun/entertaining of the three for a variety of reasons. Duels go by quicker, you aren't restricted in what your monsters can do, and the biggest appeal is the matchups. It's a game where anything is possible; aliens can fight wind-up toys, circus animals can fight demons from hell, Jedi's can fight Power Rangers, cartoon characters on a board game can fight mythical dragons, it's just wacky what can happen in a duel.

Pendulums are very easily the most poorly thought out mechanic in the entire game. There's no balance to it at all; you either have to focus on it or don't even bother running them in your deck. They're either neigh unusable or borderline broken. I'm running pure performapals(no draco shit, only odd-eyes and the only performapal I have at 3 is PW) and it's fun as fuck, but it really embodies what I'm talking about. It either struggles to get going or straight up OTK's an opponent with King Bear at over 7000 atk.

I like it. It's fast like Yugioh but as a game feels more like Magic. It borrows a ton of shit from Magic actually. The creatures have summoning sickness, keywords like haste and trample are there but under different wordings, the mana system is near identical except for one major difference.
The lands (called stones) are in a separate deck. Your ruler (works kind of like an unkillable, untargetable enchantment or in few cases, planeswalkers) can tap to put the top card of your stone library onto the field, but you can only do it once a turn. Pic related is a ruler.
It's closer to MtG than Yugioh, but I still find it fun. It's also relatively cheap. That said, Red Deck Wins type decks are T1 and extremely cheap to build, so they force you to either lose, play red yourself, or buy into any other T1 deck that can shut down RDW completely.
