N64 controllers were originally made with a lubricant applied to the inner stick housing, but it was composed of a substance that was banned in the US, so they were simply shipped without any. I had one of these and used it for Halo 2. It's actually designed really well. You never had to take your thumb off the camera to jump or melee or reload, and the trigger sensitivity was great. You could run up to someone, crouch-jump over them, spin 180 in the air during the jump and melee them in the back of the head pretty consistently. Almost impossible to do on a normal xbox controller due to button layout.
Problem wasn't design, but shitty quality. The left trigger broke, so I got another one and it's left trigger also broke. They had a life span of like 3 months.

It's good if you can't afford a fightstick, but once you get used to it, fightsticks are way better.
It's hard to commit to an investment like that though, so if you don't really play fighting games competitively, you should really consider this controller because it's hands down the best fightpad on the market.
