Do you have any strange vidya related phobias?
For example, going outside of the playable map in any game scares the shit out of me, I have the urge to nope the fuck out and just quit everytime it happens. I actually had to force myself to do the two missions in San Andreas where you fly a plane in the middle of the ocean, shit was unsettling as fuck

fuck everyone who says The train mission was hard, this one was the real deal
>>336725223
Just turn around as soon as you see the incoming plane, then you can easily catch up with the plane in time.
The mission I hated the most was Robbing Uncle Sam. Fucking forklift controls and fucking Ryder dying 30 seconds in.What's funny I passed Wrong Side of the Tracks or Zero's last two missions on the first try. On PC, using keyboard only.
Oh and Vice City had the best "Mission Passed" theme.

I learned to swim very late in my life, so naturally I was scared of deep water as a kid. That's why I hated underwater levels in games, always worried as hell that I'd run out of air and drown.
Graphical model glitches. Shut like model stretching or that one glitch where the sky texture was replaced with a face texture terrifies me.
>>336724898
I've always been really fucking scared of ladders. I absolutely hate ladder scares and if I even get a slightest sensation that there might be a jump scare at a ladder I just climb that shit eyes closed until I reach the top. It doesn't even need to be a proper scare that's supposed to scare you, even the slightest spontaneous event makes me jump. It's even worse since most games don't do anything special with ladders so it becomes unpredictable.

Reminds me of this one time, years back when I was playing vanilla WoW.
I was PvPing in Alterac Valley, when suddenly shut bugged the fuck out for me, and I started falling through the world. I didn't just fall and die after a few seconds though, it was weird. I just kept going and going until I completely disconnected for some reason.
Logged back in, and next thing I knew I was dead and half way across the world map in Dun Morogh.
Probably not as interesting to read as it was to see, but it was definitely the weirdest thing to ever happen to me in a video game.

being deep underwater makes me nope the fuck out too.
Just crash landing a plane in the water in GTA V and ending up deep as fuck and trying to swim up legitimately freaks me out. Partly because I'm scared of what may also be in the water (like octabrains, weird reptiles, sharks, whatever) but also because of a weird kind of vertigo, being either far from the surface or far from the seafloor scares me.
>>336724898

Played some lego game as a kid where you had to tail full-size humans as a tiny car while tense ass music played in a dark, creepy town. The slightest mistake would have them chasing you down and maul the shit out of you.
Ever since, tailing missions put me on edge
It took my everything just to save this image. The idea of being in an environment where anything can be below you shivers me timbers. Even the submarine levels in GTAV had my legs shaking and eyes squinting.
Seeing big castles/palaces/areas far away from me gets me extremely uneasy, it's extremely irrational. It's like, i'm so small, just a normal guy, and there's so many things unknown to me out there. It's hard to explain, but it's like this.

Not really a phobia, but getting run over by a train in Mirror's Edge has to be the most cringe-worthy thing I've experienced in vidya, gives me the goosebumps every time. Playing with a VR headset would probably make it absolutely terrifying.

They look quite nice, but there's something a bit unsettling about the PS1 Spyro skyboxes, because of the way that they make it look like the levels are just small islands in a huge plane of nothingness.
Exact same thing happened to me senpai. Same with diving. I also get that funny feeling in your stomach when i'm jumping from a height in a game.

>>336730361
There was this shitty little 3D game a while back where you played as a ball and had to jump hit stars, think it wass called Orbs. Anyway you could upgrade various stats of the ball and eventually jump outside the wall surrounding the pit-like level. Beyond it was an essentially infinite plain with a grid of repeating pits containing empty copies of the level, but without any objects.

Shooters are not the problem. You can just use skill. It's RPG games and especially JRPG were you might miss a good item you need by choosing the wrong door.
Someone remembers that glitch in the hotel jefferson in gta san andreas where is a long fall and a underworld.
Deep waters, deep space. I nope the fuck out whenever I realize how I'm just a speck floating through nothingness. Look at this webm, there's nothing inherently scary about it, just a bunch of lights flying towards you and then black at the end.

Hmm. I can't think of anything really. I used to be scared of fog to hide bad draw distance on old games but nowadays it doesn't happen anymore. Now that I think about it though there is a thing.
This is going to be a confession but I am scared of games remaining sony exclusives. I don't own a sony console and I never will because I think the company is anti-consumer shit that doesn't care about the industry and just wants to see it burn. They're the barely better than EA.
For some reason it's always unsettling when a good game gets announced as a 'sony exclusive' and I'm scared it will always be stuck and held back on bad hardware. It's funny because I don't have that feeling with Nintendo or Microsoft stuff.
Anyway with emulation and steam growth that fear has toned down but I still don't like it.

i cant explain it, but my feet becomes extremely numb and i feel like im not sitting or standing on my feet like some disconnect with my body when this happens. i.e any 3d Mario games and other close camera platformers
I'm a little afraid of heights and every time a character falls from a big height it makes me feel uneasy.

I used to be scared of ladders in games too but not because of some irrational phobia or anything, rather because in 90% of games ladders were a fucking death trap because of janky controls. Nothing like beating a difficult section and then falling to your death because the fucking game wouldn't register your attempts to go down the fucking ladder. The ruins in Megaman Legends used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. I'd wander around and get hopelessly more and more lost trying to find my way out, and I'd get so freaked out that eventually I'd just shut off the power and cry for a while.
Also those dickheads in Ocarina of time that would grab you and send you back, those really freaked me out as a kid.

In a game of a well established 3D environment, back tracking to somewhere unnecessarily to find no change. It's just so eerie to me for some reason. Like for instance, even in something extremely cartoony like Mario 64 and going to the corners of the castle garden or something. Feels like there's something hidden there.
>>336729056
But can Sonic float to parallel universes ala Mario 64?
Planet Zoness in Starfox 64 gave me a crippling fear of searchlights. It's at the point where I'll immediately restart a level or turn the game off completely if I get caught.
I'm afraid of entering rooms in videogames because they can lock you inside them.

Graphical glitches pretty much, usually cause I'm pretty drunk while playing and it freaks me the fuck out. Can't go back to RDR cause of cougar man
Falling through the map doesn't usually bother me but replaying DS1 and a skeleton before the drop off for the catacombs blacksmith just stomps me straight through the floor I said goddamn.
The more realistic a game the worse it is, used to hunt out glitches in the Sonic Adventure games but there's one part in Beyond Good and Evil where the cat girl is just sitting inside Triple H or whatever his name is in the hideout clipping through his stomach, fuck cat girls they're xenomorphs

San Andreas. In general. I love the game, but outside of the cities, I swear that there's something about the low-polygon count and silence when you're not in a car that gives it a really eerie feeling.

I wouldn't say I'm actually scared of it, but I do get a distinct sense of isolation when playing in an empty map. Or on an abandoned multiplayer server, even when it's running bots. Hell, the bots emphasize it, if anything, like the lights still being on or a tv still playing in an abandoned building.
I actually kind of wish there were some horror storiescreepypastathat used this, perhaps using other stuff mentioned here, like graphical glitches. Or maybe even trying to make a horror film/short using game footage. I doubt it would really be that good, but I'd still find it interesting to read.
Not strictly vidya but TVs suddenly turning on/off scares me for some reason.
Not a phobia, but rather a strange sensation. It happens a lot when I play platformers. Let's say there's a long jump ahead of me and the only way forward is to land on a super tiny platform. After I jump across and barely make the landing, the muscles in my anus contract and I get a brief feeling of tightness there. I don't know how else to describe it. Maybe it's a sign of relief in my body? It happens especially when the platforms are high up in the air and falling means certain death. Please tell me I'm not the only one. I've never told anyone about this so I don't know if it's common or not.

>>336755805
>falling
Errr... maybe. Minor spoilers ahead. Doesn't spoil the actual end game, only the last big area.
Basically, there are a series of pathways in an infinitely open space, overlaping on top and botton of eachother, connecting a series of "islands". You can't see much farther into a sort of fog.
At some point, you're forced to jump into a huge hole, falling into the gray abyss for some solid 5 or so secons, until you eventually line up with a pathway bellow. If you fall randomly through out this segment you'll also eventually fall on a pathway that is generated bellow you
It's not a realistic looking game, so I guess that helps, but sinceyou can't see where you're falling for some momentsmakes it kinda scary.

I stopped playing Shadow of the Colossus for about a week the first time when I got to the eel colossus because that shit was too scary. Huge monster underneath you and you have to wait in the middle of the lake in order to coax it to surface and attack you. Just seeing a vague snakelike thing and occasional flashes of light in the murky depths is really unsettling. To this day, I still get an uncomfortable feeling when I play the part

Low draw distance. I remember playing Megaman Legends and almost shitting my goddamn pants at the underground area with the spider bots. Vanilla Morrowind was a goddamn nightmare.
Opaque bodies of water are another one. Looking down and not being able to see anything but my feet suspended above interminable nothingness makes me lose my sense of perspective and space and makes me think literally any moment something's going to approach from just beyond the curtain of opacity and drag me screaming into the endless depths.
Being stuck in the middle of the ocean without a boat is literally my biggest fear. There's an entire world of biological and geological diversity below your feet and yet you can't see ANY of it. That just freaks me the fuck out.

The scariest games ever are for me is when I stay awake for extreme lengths of time. At least 30+ hours. It's better in open world games, everything feels weird and wrong in indescribable ways. My gf
I sometimes feel over exposed in video games. It started with the first Armored Core when you'd be tramping around these dark, creepy environments making all the fucking noise in the world. Then randomly start getting shot at. I'd start freaking out trying to sort out what direction it was coming from, but would eventually just cover my eyes and wait to die. That feeling of being so exposed just fucked with me. It never really triggered that bad in my adult life until I played Outlast. The worst was when that big fucker would chase my around. I'd start getting frantic, make a wrong turn and wind up at a dead end or something. Then that feeling of impending doom, of some giant grunting demon charging behind me at full speed, would cross from the game into the real world. So I'd throw my controller down and cover my eyes and wait to die.

In a similar vein to OP (in terms of flying to the point where you can't see the map), has anyone ever accidentally/intentionally used glitches that make you jump super fucking high?
Super Mario Sunshine had one. However, you can actually go so high that Mario will hit the "camera" (skybox), and he'll have this look of intense pain on him as he falls.
When I watch a stream of Dark Souls or something, and the character is running up a stairway, the clumsy way he does not correctly lay his feet on the individual steps makes me intensely worried he will fall over and break his teeth.

When enemies in RPGs don't want to fight you but you have to fight them to progress the plot anyway. Two games have stopped me from playing because of this. Star Ocean 3: The rich guy you encounter on the planet at the beginning of the game starts pleading for his life after you get him down to low HP. Crono Cross: The bit where you have to go back to your home island afterthe body swap. I just can't bring myself to keep playing. The Baten Kaitos plot twist spooked me a bunch too, sort of a similar situation.

Anything that comes out of the left field.

I used to think space was really cool and exciting, but ever since I got Oculus rift and tried such demos as titans of space and exploring space I'm not fucking terrified of it, it's just such utter nothing that it's deadly, and there is a bunch of colossal balls there that are so huge, if I get in their vicinity I'll be sucked in and splatter against them. Really think about the last game you were in.
Last one I was in was Doom. Fucking literal Demons everywhere all trying to kill you. Those demonic faces littering every wall. Blood and fire as far as you can see. Just sitting down and watching dead bodies as you hear some fucking beast somewhere around you. The fucking blue and red moving texture would freak me out if I saw a real structure with it.
Even Mario games. You have to hold you're breath underwater and even with all that cartoon lung capacity shit you're still gonna drown. Suffocating, panicking and finally blacking out as you you see your hand just barely within reach of one fucking coin. Last thing you hear is Bowser laughing at you as you drift off.
Nothing so far has really scared me that's similar to these others being posted, but that honestly is the closest to a phobia.

There's some kind of thing that is the feeling you get when near a ledge. That "i could totally jump off" or "what if my body jumps off without my control "
Supposedly that feeling that you may jump off is somehow enforcing you to stay the fuck away from a place you could die from.
I played that frogger 3D adventure game and there was a level where you're going down a river and this fish chases you. It's a pretty big fish.

Glitch
If the player uses the "pedestrians attack each other" cheat before this mission, Madd Dogg will immediately jump after the opening cutscene, making this mission impossible to complete. If it happens, the only way to fix it is by using a save game editor such as hmvartak's online glitch repair tool, or to start a new game (Note: Do not use cheats that affect the gameplay up to this mission). This is one of a few missions to not work correctly if too many cheats are used, the others being Burning Desire, Tanker Commander, 555 We Tip and, in some cases, Photo Opportunity.
