It's got huge sweeps, incredibly light, decently quick, has a charge that is great for catching up and punishing estus attempts and gets S scaling with lightning infuse. It 's basically a greatsword that only got the UGS can it's fucking huge.
Used the Claymore for my first playthrough. On NG+ I used the Black Knight Greataxe which was fun since I just rolled instead of blocking. Claymore is still my favorite though, especially since I was able to throw Great Magic Weapon on it.I used the Dark Sword and Havel's Greatshield when I was just trying to get covenant items. It's cheap but hey, it worked. And if such a shit weapon works on people they kinda deserve to lose. No one parries in this game, it's ridiculous. And despite two separate rings and weapons built entirely around getting past shields people would mindlessly try to R1 spam me. I'd feel worse about using such a shit combo if people would actually try to counter it.

Other than that I played a lot with Claymore, which was shit, and Drang Hammers, which were shit. They're fine for PVE but if you're playing solo, there's basically no reason to not just use a Dark Sword anyway.

Great Axe in this game is better than it's ever been in past Souls games
At +10 with Heavy infusion and 40 STR it has exactly 599 AR, and 658 with the weapon art
2H R1s come out very fast, stunlock, have hyper armor, AND if you miss and the target is close enough, it will stagger them from the tremors
Weapon Art R2 comes out very fast, hits twice, can combo (4 hits on both R2s) and has hyper armor (doesn't stunlock until the second hit of both 2 hit combos though), oh, and the weapon art activation itself actually staggers enemies if you use it next to them
You can do a total of four 2H R1s with 40 END before running out of stamina, which makes it easy to bait people (throw out a two hit combo, and when it misses they'll rush in thinking you're out of stamina, since all the other great axe variants (BK, Dragon, etc) eat a full bar with only two attacks
Also, it looks sexy as hell, and doesn't clip through walls/floors like most other weapons do (halberds/spears, washing pole, ultra greatswords, etc)

I'm using Anri's Straight Sword after doing my entire playthrough using a claymore and wolf knight greatsword. I want to like the greatswords but Anri's Straight Sword can out damage them all and swings faster using less stamina. The only disadvantage it has is reach which isn't enough.

It's a rare-ish drop from those hammer-wielding undead in the settlement, it has Vordt's moveset and the spiked mace's spin. You can actually get all the weapons from normal undead in the settlement except the offhand knife of the abyssal guys and the handsaw.
I love the thing because it doesn't weight much compared to other great hammers and you can get a few other weapons in there to cover its weaknesses like the Demon Fists or the Thrall Axe. That and how it's the only mallet in the game.

I use the regular whip. It's totally underrated. One-handed has some of the best horizontal reach of any weapon. Only thing I don't like are its running attacks. They're a bit too slow. Fortunately, like all its other attacks, the reach is fantastic.

2) again, poise doesn't work, so you can only rely on hyper armor. The Flamberge only has it while two-handing it and during weapon arts.

They're different, criticals are riposte/backstabs. Counter attacks are basically a small window after someone is done with their attack where if they get hit you do additional damage. I believe it's a flat x1.4 increase for counters.

Its strong, REALLY strong, which is why its a "meme weapon" Youre tripping over how many people are using it. The reason its notable is that there are so many weapons in the game yet everyone comes back to this one, theres nothing inherently wrong or bad about this, the game fucked up, but it does feels cheap to use for how effective it is and how restrictive and lames the playstyle is that accompanies using it. Its not a terribly exciting weapon to play with, it just gets it done.

Astora GS is actually an ultra great sword
Those are good for pvp
The problem is the normal great sword, it needs a buff,not much hyper armor , barely does more damage than straightswords per hit
Astora Greatsword, Zweihander, Black Knight Greatsword and Black Knight Sword. Those four are my most commonly used weapons and I absolutely love them.
And by the time I level up enough strength to wield it and vitality to carry it around without getting fat-rolls, Yhorm's Great Machette.

Dark Sword is the Drake Sword of Dark Souls 3. It's a really strong weapon you can get relatively early in the game so newbies flock to it.
It stands out a lot in invasions too, where you'll see someone with a Dark Sword swinging wildly at the air even after the other person's rolled away

Yes, but as you stick to the lower meta, eventually you'll want out of it. At least I did. Every fight was BK Glaive, Murokumo/Exile Blade, Spike Mace and just FIRST HIT WINS. Everyone does the instant-win combos and at the lower level metas they literally will one shot you with the R1 L2 R2 combo. It gets boring really fast when that is all it takes to end an invasion/fight.

You get almost 680 ar with this thing at 40 int/faith with a fire/dark clutch ring. You can get over 800 ar with power within and sacred oath. Power within isn't that good, though. The downside is that it requires a lot of stat investment and you will sacrifice some vig and end for att like all magic builds.
The main thing that makes this thing a beast is that it is light, has a fantastic and unparriable 2h moveset, scales well with everything, and looks sexy.
The rolling r1 actually does more damage than the regular attack and is pretty damn fast. The charge is also terrifying against people the try to roll or run in front of you, and provides a fast reaction against players that leave themselves open after attack. Press r2 during it and you will extend it a bit further. Don't abuse it, though. It can be punished if you try to use it for no reason.
