I'm going to throw my total speculated guess out there (just want to check back on this tomorrow) and say that the game is going to be a combination of several different wars (e.g. WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Modern, Future). They have their engine pretty much set and have a lot of old assets from their games to reuse. They choose the biggest military battles from each era (3-4) per war, expand the player limit from 64 to 80 to adjust for more grand/bigger maps, and increase total destruction. In addition, I see possible VR support in the future.
The future thing is already being done up by other games and one of the devs even said "it wont be what fans expect." Fans right now are expecting 2143 or even a WW1 (based on past rumors).
Plus having the game being focused around all war instead of just one war gives them SO MUCH room for expansion, DLC, and other extra business EA loves to do. But hey if it's good, I'll pay for it.

There's plenty of nonwhite people to pull from in just the American part of the conflict. The problem is the lack of integration means that you basically have to choose a unit and make them all black/hispanic/asian except for the officers, so real diversity is impossible (of course, "diversity" is still possible). Navajo are the only exception to that rule, since it would defeat the purpose of code talkers to shove them all into one unit.
