Its a nice trailer.
I'm wondering what the Ork Giant Walker will be.
Gorkanaut or a Stompa?
I'm also wondering if they'll update the actual 40K rules for Morkanauts to make them comparable to Knights.

Things have constantly changed over the ages with various revisions. Hell for a long time even just a Marines height was hotly debated over.

However one thing remained true though and that is Marines are not for stand up battles like in the trailer. They are for surgical and brutal precision strikes utilising their rapid deployment and redeployment abilities. They are shock troops of the highest caliber.

Put them in a situation like in the trailer or protracted fights when they can't utilise their strengths and they will start dropping.

I'd say 1, Winter Assault and DC are all damn near mandatory. SS is a bit too similiar to DC for me but I still enjoyed it. Its kinda buggy, you need community patch if you're gonna play it.

1 and Winter assault are "regular" RTS in the sense that each campaign mission is hand made. In DC, the formula is changed up: now you're conquering a whole planet, over two dozen regions and you can pick one of 7 races to play as, though Blood Ravens are the canon winners of DC. To win, you have to conquer all six of your enemies strongholds

The problem is that most of the regular regions are just skirmish maps from multiplayer that have new names, some descriptions and flavour text slapped on em. Dont get me wrong, I think DC is overall the best DC but that was kinda cheap. The Strongholds are hands down the best part of DC. IMO not a single one of them is bad.

The Necrons Lords always had some personality. They were the only ones with it. The changes to the Codex just gave some of their minions personality too.

There was a good fun short story about a Necron Lord impersonating an Inquisitor trying to break into a Necron tomb with the help of some Mechanicus so he could get his staff back.

The rank and file Necron warriors are still the silent death machines they always were.

>>336548315
Well the reason for why I would be technically playing the IG wrong is because I play them like Elder or Space Marines in the sense. I load them up with good weapons, I attach them to a vehicle or a drop-ship and speed around the battlefield doing hit and run attacks. Majority of the kills comes directly from the Basilisks though because they end up pieplating entire swarms of squishy targets while my troopers acted like bait. Problem is that I'm actually a coward and so when I see my troops in real danger I pull them out and position them elsewhere. I don't like to see them getting chopped up unless its for a worthy enough cause.

My actual secret lies in the artillery because thats how I win my wars and I was always playing 1 vs 3 against the AI. Also because I was playing on a shitty labtop I had to stay away from the pitched battles because my games would end up slowly down to a crawl of 8 FPS and thats no good for heated battle against Nids, Necrons and Orks.
>>
>>336548189

Vanilla = Pretty good campaign, dead as shit online

WA = Mediocre campaign squashes races together in a good vs evil scenario

DC = Awful campaign, dead as shit online, broken mess of a game, horrendusly unbalanced and full of glitches that were never fixed

SS = Pretty bad campaign expanded version of the DC one, online is still active, by far the most balanced version of DoW1 with the most content.

But this is exactly how you were supposed to be playing IG.

Dont think so. The Knights have "Houses" and like with regular Titans, most imperial commanders have to kind of ask nicely for them to join their campaigns.

The guy is playing against a force you keep entirely in reserve, and enter from your opponents deployment zone on the second turn. Very cheesy.

So this guy fucked him over by deploying a blob of Kroot spread out across his deployment zone so that there would be no valid entry point for the other guy. He wins by default as the other guy never had his army enter the board.

That is a pic from the rules being confirmed.

The whole sterilization thing is just from the DoW games. It doesn't exist in the actual TT fluff anywhere. The shadiest implications against the Tau in the TT are that the Ethereals control the other Tau via pheromones, and enslaved the Vespid with the Communion helms.

Basically their fledgling empire believes in strength from unity. And all work towards a greater good for their people. However the way they get you to join the greater good if you don't just do so willingly is to put you in a position where you don't really have a choice.

That being said they have excellent diplomats, and the way their empire works is very appealing to your average Imperial citizen given it isn't as stifling as how the Imperium works.

They also have some pretty advanced technology for such a relatively young race, and there used to be implications that their creation and ascent (as well as their protection) was planned out and enacted by some higher power. Like maybe the Slaan/Old Ones.

Yes, more or less.

>but they sterilize you

It should be noted that was only in their (non canon) victory on Kronus. We havent heard about something like this anywhere else. Its not outright stated but it is implied.

Its also been implied that the masks they gave to the Vespid leaders, ostensibly in order to communicate with them, does something to them and makes them more obedient. Again, only implied, never outright stated as fact.

Deployment is a big fucking deal, and having starting positions which give you a better angle on the enemy can outright win a match.

White Shirt is playing a cheese strat: hold his entire army of motorbike troops in reserve, then deploy them on his first turn. This means the other player, Shit Eating Grin, can't predict how Whitey will have his forces deployed, and Whitey can deploy with full knowledge of Grin's position. Whitey plans to hit the weakest enemy group, then roll the rest up from there.

However, Grin is wise to Whitey's cheese. Grin composes his army entirely of scout troops, which can be deployed anywhere that's at least 30cm from an enemy, instead of only his side of the map. Those scouts are deployed in an exposed line on Whitey's side of the map with less than 5cm between their bases, totally fucked if they come under fire.

Grin ends his deployment, match is declared started, and Grin announces he was won.

What the fuck happened? Deployment rules only allow reserves to enter the map on the player's edge of the map, at least 5cm from enemy forces. Grin's troops are placed such that there's no edge of Whitely map that's valid to deploy reserves from. Since Whitey can never deploy his troops, Grin has permanent control of the map, and wins.

For fucks sake this again. They aren't immune. They just have a lesser presence in the warp compared to humans. This makes them harder to corrupt for Chaos, and ultimately not really worth their time. On top of the Tau's complete lack of psykers which means no really viable hosts for daemons.

Imagine it like this, if you were some hungry lion would you eat the scrawny as shit smelly vegan, or the fat bacon guzzling not mentally impaired person?

The biggest porblem with DC is really the balance. I personally think it has the best campaign of the lot.

SS has a campaign but its kind of mediocre, in my opinion. Aside from the voice acting being hilariously bad, producing no less than infamous memes, there is issue of the stronholds, the most: as far I am concerned, DCs strongholds are superior in every way, with a few exceptions.

The Tau are the newbies to the setting. While humans and Eldar were fucking each other in the faces with swords, the Tau were jerking off with mud while drooling on themselves. Then one day the Tau's planet is surrounded in a warp storm, for years. When the storm fades, the Tau have advanced to a high tech space fairing society. They are basically socialist, in that they believe everything belongs to the 'greater good' of the race, and everyone must contribute. Taus are separated into various castes that do different jobs (Earth=workers,Water=bureaucrats, Fire=warriors, Air=messengers. Ethereal=the ones in charge) and are the only faction that are willing to integrate other races into their empire, giving them citizenship and having them contribute to the war efforts (many humans have even left the Imperium to join the Tau) The Tau's major aesthetic revolves around laser weaponry and mech suits, they excel at ranged weaponry. However despite their impressive technological level, the Tau are extremely naive to the vast majority of the galaxy. Their entire empire is incredibly small, they have no knowledge of the Warp (and thus have no FTL travel, making them the slowest faction in terms of space travel) have no knowledge of Chaos or the greater threats to the galaxy (there was once a story of a Tau planet trying to throw Necrons a party for killing a bunch of Nids) and in general act like bigger than they actually are (the Tau don't even think Hive Cities exist, nor do they have any Titan-class weapons, beyond a really big bomber ship) so they really are new players to a game thats been going on for millenia

Which one of the Deathwatch books is it? And whilst everything that goes into those books is signed off by GW's loremaster, it is still technically non-canon since GW themselves didn't write it. Everything in those books exists in a grey area where each company can't use use existing stuff from the other's.
>>
>>336550472
In general? Try the Lexicanum-wiki. It's a bit outdated but a good entry point.

If you're looking for a book to pick up try the Eisenhorn trilogy (Rise and fall of an imperial Inquisitor) or Storm of Iron (invasion from the pov of traitor Space Marines).

>>336550797
Dark Crusade is the better game.
Soulstorm has actually working multiplayer, better Steam implementation and therefore, better mod support, but shitty singleplayer.

And that's about it. People arent "split" on DC, that's just SS fags being salty. Its only natural that SS with its better Steam implementation is the choice for many people, but if you want to play single player, then by all means, go for DC.

It should also be noted that SS without mods is literally shitty fangame tier, since its an outsourced expansion. So only buy it if you really want mods or multiplayer.

>implying an Imperial controlled world is any better

Kinda depends on the world. I mean, the Imperium has literally a million planets under its control and its been stated that some planets, though they ultimately answer to the Imperium and have to obey it, are democracies and elect their Governors (of course, democracy doesnt necesarily mean everyone gets to vote.)

If you wanna bring in the BL, whose canonicity is admittedly in a sort of grey area, there seems to be reasonably normal worlds in Eisenhorn and Ravenor. A penal legionaire in the Last Chancers trilogy describes his agri-planet homeworld as pretty idyllic, before the Guard draft came knocking and he had to leave.

Of course there some very shitty places to live in the Imperium. But at least the risk of reality being split and demons pouring out on such a world is (relatively) small.

Not an inkling. A Hive City is pretty much a basic thing in the Imperium, it's just a city of absolute massive proportions, full to the brim with billions of people. When a human told a Tau...engineer I think? about Hive Cities, the Tau just laughed in his face about how ridiculous it sounds.

And again, the only faction without any form of titan weaponry, because the Tau believe machines that big are pointless and illogical, until they started running into Imperium Titans. The only thing they had that could come close to fighting titans was the Tiger Shark, which was pretty decent, since it was more nimble that Imperium titans and could still dish out some damage.

However recent times show that the Tau have finally caught up to the idea and have this thing, called Supremacy Armor. But it still shows how fresh they are that it took them so long to finally get a Titan, and even then this thing is a HUGE drain on their resources.

It's interesting to note that the grandfather of RTS's, Dune 2, actually had a retreat button for most units. Except for the Harkonnen Devastator which had a self-destruct button instead.

If I remember correctly, pressing it simply told that unit to move back to its original spawn point, or maybe sent it to a repair facility.

And wasn't it a pretty bad thing for the Tau? Since it brings an influx of billions of people without providing any resources besides a horrible monstrosity of a city

That is why certain gangs there have better quality weapons than others, because they control the manufacture.

You should try looking at Elite Mod top player casts in 1v1, Scouts absolutely aren't cannon fodder in Retribution. They have high movement speed for backcapping, insane energy regen, can infiltrate to tie up setup teams via flanks, throw grenades and have knockback on demand with Explosive Shot. They're an asset throughout the entire game to a skilled Space Marine player

Also they would be utterly appalled at them. They have their own manufacturing which is arguably superior, they need resources more than shoddy Imperial and Mechanicus facilities.

>>336553897
Necromunda is an awesome setting, and a fucking fun game if you can do up a proper campaign with mates. Power armor isn't really a thing in it though. Closest you will get is Orrus Spyrer armor. Spyrers are uphive Nobles kitted out with offworld hunting suits that go to the underhive to hunt people for fun.

Later when the Tau became a thing it was heavily inferred that the suits came from them. But in true GW fashion nothing was ever done with that so we never got fun Gue'la auxiliaries in badass suits wrecking up shit for the Greater Good.

>>336554040
Hive worlds are pretty much what happens when you cover the surface of a planet in Mega City One and dig a little further down to make extra room. If you wanted to you could make an entire vidya from just one Imperial hive simply from the amount of variation that is contained within it from the likes of muties, surface level, roaming gangs in the wastes, gang warfare in the hive itself and derelict tech scavenging in the depths of the great hives. Sadly we won't see a Necromunda vidya anytime soon.

Yes, yes, I know.

But the Tau are a minor xenos faction, iconic of the thousands that beset the length and breadth of the Imperium. It's a big galaxy.

Think about what humanity seems like to all those aliens. Sure, a lot of them are inhuman monstrosities it's impossible to empathize with. But a lot of them are probably also like that apocryphal earth-caste engineer- laughing at the sheer absurdity of such a psychotic setup.

Then realizing it exists.

Then struggling to come to grips with any kind of context in which it would make sense.

Then realizing just how small you might be, and just how impressive the Imperium's scope and concerns are in comparison.

And how unpleasant the galaxy is that a force like that is barely clinging to life.

>Sadly we won't see a Necromunda vidya anytime soon.

With the way things currently are this is arguably a good thing. I wake up in a cold sweat some nights from a nightmare where Bethesda got the rights to make a Beth-Fallout style Necromunda game.

The thing is that that style of game could actually be really fucking cool, but not if Beth did it. Something like Stalker would probably work out better though. But you would also want the gang aspect in there, with maybe some sort of command stuff like The Bureau or something.
>>
>>336554568
The Tau are not that minor since they actually have a standing military, have fought in various battles and have carved out their own in this hostile galaxy. An actual minor xenos faction are more along the lines of Kroot, Hrud, Slaugh and Umbra. The last three of which still cause problems for everyone despite not even showing up on the grand scheme of things.

>Few in numbers
This is true, in comparison to every other fighting force. There are thousands of Marine Chapters, but each chapter can only have about 1000 Marines (some can barely get that much), and the more popular chapters actually create off-shoot chapters specifically to hold their run-offs.
>Ancient
The concept of them is ancient. The truth is there are only like, two Space Marines old enough to count as "ancient" (Marines who have been around since the origins of the marines and such) and one of them is a Dreadnaught.

As for combat abilities, they are very much unmatched in combat, because they are the peak of humanity and above, they are war machines in flesh, which makes them exceedingly strong in combat, they just have the misfortune of coming against enemies who can match them. As for Orks, Orks vary in power scaling. An average Ork is fodder plain and simple, they can give Imperial Guards difficulty, but are barely a thought to Space Marines, but Orks, even the rank and file of the Orks, can very much grow strong enough to give Space Marines more than just trouble.

When it comes down to it, even if you boast a single kind of unit in the universe as something great, there are only a handful of things in the 40k verse that would not get picked off like flies in battle, because thats just what the setting is like.

>arguing about cover

DoWII had the superior cover system, this is an objective fact. Light cover, heavy cover, 'perfect' cover in the form of energy shields deployed by Guardians, field fortifications Guardsmen could deploy, garrisons and functioning shotblockers which could deny unit line of sight. Vehicle wrecks could also be used as heavy cover in the middle of a battle.

DoW1 didn't even have proper fucking physics. An especially retarded example of this would be the Etherieal's Shas'Ui bodyguard and their extremely long firing range. As long as you had a Stealthsuit scouting ahead, the bodyguard could shoot at units two screens away through fucking walls and mountain ranges and still hit.

DOW2 campaign is just boring to me, as only Vannila Ice and Avitus are useful unless they ran into a building

Except you did, I called you out on your bullshit, and now you are trying to save face pretending that isnt what you meant

Well done, you proved you're a moron. No more replies for you, you are either too stupid to reason with or trolling.

Space Marine

A book about i think the crimson fists.

With pain glove and all that fisty things.

Gameplay > lore. This is true for any Dawn of War game. You can also be an Imperial Fist Space Marines in DoW1 teaming up with Iron Warriors, Necrons and Dark Eldar to fight the Imperial Guard but nobody complains about that.

If you want to call halfassed perfect, then yes, it was. People who actually play these games against other human opponents and don't just enjoy compstomping Relic's retarded AI got bored of it pretty quickly

In recent years 40k books have been straying away from their more graphic origins, so the fans are doing the work themselves to fill up the gaping hole that Slaanesh left in everyone.
