I can sympathize, but as far as I can tell, at least since Doom 3 the shotgun has had the kind of really random and big spread. But if the spread get lucky and is even only halfway decent, you can kill folks in 1 or two hits. In Doom 3's multi (yes, I played it), the tech. behind the shotgun was constantly knowing what kind of spread your previous shot just got (and corresponding damage to enemy) and whether or not to rush him or hold back and shoot from further.
I thought it was an interesting dynamic instead of the usual "just shoot first and accurately" with shotties to win any ccq situation.

His death was actually a good thing and was the best way to handle it. It prevents his character from losing what makes him be cool by becoming an S4, it allows him to have a reason to show up one last time, and they can always go back and tell more stories about shit he did as an ODST like in the one part of the anthology book.

They nerfed Stormcaller so the super isn't a Fist of Havoc + Flashbang Grenade anymore.
But yeah, I run a max agility, max armor Striker Titan and a charged Warlock melee will kill me in one shot.
That said, a proper face kick (not even charged) when using the Peregrine Grieves will 1 shot anything to include active Bladedancers, Stormcallers, even Defender Titans inside their bubble with Armor of Light activated.

I don't care about honorable deaths, most of the dead cast in Halo died horribly and gruesomely. Johnson was killed by Guilty Spark for christssake.
It's just that the Rookie's death was a cheap method to get people to buy the book and nothing more than a plot device to make it so Buck is playable in Halo 5. And despite being part of the heavily-shilled Fireteam Osiris, he's just the role of the sarcastic fanfavorite and doesn't actually matter much beyond being a primary team member.

I have. It's not one of the best but it's not bad (in fact the only one i'd say is is the last kilo 5 book) and the rookie's death is fine. I agree that mickey's betrayal is silly though but bottom line is it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, as is the case with most 343 stuff.
The only stuff actually as terrible as people say they are with 343 is the last kilo 5 book (the first two are alright but not great), escalations, and halo 4's handling of john and cortana's personality and how rampancy works.

I totally agree that they wasted buck in 5 though and cheapened him out as "token wisecrack sarcasm teamate" when in ODST he barely did that and was way more naunced, though; it's one of my bigger issues with 5's story (which I'd still say while meh, isn't actually bad)

Anyways, as far as actually good newer halo books rather then just "okay"; broken circle, last light, and shadow of intent are all fantastic and are nyland tier. Broken circle in particular is almost ghosts of onyx level, and last light isn't far behind. Shadow of intent is written by staten, so enough said there.
I hear Hunters in the Dark is pretty decent as well.

There's not some mass killing of bungie era characters. Pretty much every character that was alive at the end of halo 3 still is. The rookie and paragonsky, actually, are the only ones I can think of who aren't.

Shadow of Intent is good- I agree. As is Hunters in the Dark from what I've read (haven't finished).
Halo 5's MP is ALRIGHT. It's phenomenal compared to my expectations, but that's not saying much when they're so low they're next to fucking dinosaur bones. Removed from those incredibly low expectations, like I said, it's ALRIGHT. There is a modicum of balance, the non-jewish updates are nice, and forge is good. Otherwise, it's nothing to write home about. Not having Infection at launch is fuckin' silly, not having proper customization is fuckin' silly, Warzone is fuckin' silly, so on and so forth. It's OKAY.
And frankly I think it's a little unfair that you're letting them off for MCC STILL NOT WORKING. Holy SHIT how hard is it to get your fucking game to work?

I won't dispute that; it certainly does ruin a lot of the mystery, and it would have been better to wait till they were ready to put the franchise to bed for good to release them, but I really enjoyed what was actually there regardless. Silentium was basically a sci fi/cosmic horror version of the war of creation with stars being thrown around as weapons and reality itself being undone and it's the sickest fucking shit IMO

It has my favorite core gameplay in the series only behind 2, and it also fixes 2's biggest issue IMO, which is shit weapon balance, so i'm pretty damn happy with it, I love that auto's are actually viable even if the AR rewards spraying and praying a little too much (how it was in the beta was better, bursting and getting headshots was super good).
I agree the lack of gamemodes and maps at launch is inexcusable though. I actually like warzone a lot, which surprised me, I expected it to be shit (well, same for 5 itself, but doubly so for warzone)

It breaks my heart it wasn't the "super mega ultra revival of halo" package it could and should have been, in fact in many way's it's worse then spore even,but I still got 5 1080p 60 fps halo campaigns + ce/2 remasters for 65$, so like... eh?
It does piss me off they just dropped working on it to make way for 5 though, and if for some god forsaken reason I find myself on waypoint or something and I see a MCC thread, i'll post in it and upvote.

Fair enough. Like I said, cool books. It's just if I had to pick between them, and having back a mysterious and unknown Flood and Forerunners, I'd easily take the latter. There's plenty of baller-as-fuck sci-fi books as it is.

That's fine. I disagree, but it's fine. Like I said, it's balanced, and that's one of the positives. But everything surrounding that is still 'meh' at best to me.
Card packs are dumb because it makes people not want to waste fun items and thus forces a losing team into an even further losing position, since no one wants to waste cards if they're going to lose anyway.
Customization got shafted, and, even if it didn't, most of the armor designs are kind of shit anyway.
They really didn't do anything worthwhile with the weapon sandbox besides shuffle around old standbys.
I genuinely don't love any of the maps. I mean i like them okay, but if I was told to remember the layout and name of any of them, I'd probably recall like three at most. I haven't thought extensively why that is, but I think one of the reasons might be that a lot of them seem to be about symmetry, and I think they went a little too far with it after trying to make a "balanced" game after the clusterfuck that was Halo 4. Whereas the most memorable maps I can remember are often asymmetrical (e.g. zanzibar, high ground, etc). Not a global rule or anything, just a note is all.
Call me oldschool, but I don't like sprinting. Yes, it is FAR more balanced than it was in Halo 4, but it still feels completely out of place to me. Just make the movement speed faster if you feel like people aren't getting around the map quick enough. As it stands there is way too many situations where some retard sprints around the corner into me, basically giving me a free kill, which isn't exciting or fun.
