It's not that bad of a change, I actually went to Demon's Souls first. I took a while to get used to the shield but it got to the point where I was using it too much and ended up forgetting how to dodge correctly.

Ornstein and Smough was as tough as people said.

Speaking of geography, what's the story behind the Ash Lake? I at first thought it was some sort of Norse world tree type thing but you can see it from the Tomb of Giants. Is it smaller than i thought?

Ash Lake is intended to be below everything. The view from the Tomb to Ash Lake doesn't actually work out if you look at it in this map viewer, so you've just kind of got to understand what they were going for.

Well they're both big, tall, lanky fast-moving guys with big blades that jump at you and cast out aoe splash attacks.

I think the difference is Artorias's swings are more straightforward, while Orphan uses the string to adjust the length of his strikes.

That, and the fight gives me the same feeling.

Arty was cool back in the day, but he is waaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too easy when compared to even Father Gascan, let alone Orphan.

Just pay some attention to his movements, like Orphan he gives a clear sign of what his next attack will be, but unlike Orphan's his moves have a much slower wind-up, and are always the same, same tempo, and same number of hits.

Also, while it might look like that Arty has a second form of sorts, its actually free damage, just go and hit him a few times when he is powering up, he will get staggered and it will allow a bunch of free hits, and even better, if he survives, he will try it again soon, for more free hits.

Arty has a cool design, but goodamn he is one of the easiest bosses.
>>
When using dsfix, it says going to 60fps can cause problems. So do I leave it at 30?
>>
>>336418013

>>
>>336417780
i probably will. i tried to give it a go a few weeks ago, i didn't get much farther lol but that's probably because i'm just not that good at it either lol. it may just not be a game for me and i'm making excuses

>>336417854
the controller, layout, menus, game itself
>>
>>336418013
Turn it on, only turn it off if you're having problems. When you're sliding down ladders it's possible that you can keep going and fall through the level geometry and die, but it's pretty rare. If it's not happening to you then just keep it on.
>>
>>336417802
just thought it was interesting. i usually think of orphan as the boss thats quite different to anything in DS. hes faster than any of them, has incredible animations, and has a crazy moveset, compared to the simple moveset of arty, orphan is just something else imo.

fighting arty felt like i was fighting someone with some honor intact, orphan felt like it was fighting for its life to destroy me.
>>
>>336418013
you can if you want. make sure you still unlock the fps at 30, as from cannot into programming.

The only problems you'll run into at 60fps are sliding down a few ladders where you'll just fall through the world, but the only place I got that was the ladder next to the rats below the drake. Just don't go above 60 and you'll be fine.
>>
>>336418062
Are you wearing heavy armor? The game feels much better to play if you have lower equipment burden.

I was honestly sad when there was barely any great looking sceneries in DaS3, sure it's some impressive designs and great looking structures - but it's all grey, and depressive.
I miss the colour and atmosphere DaS1 had. Even the Abyss in the DLC had more feel to it than most of DaS3.

My favourite area in DaS3 is Archdrake Peak simply because it looks the least withered and dead.

All I'm saying is I miss more greenery and warming colours rather than the ashen gray and a suffocating world atmosphere. But it is so for obvious lore reasons and I'm fine with that.

The only remotely colourful areas in DaS3 are Road of Sacrifices, Irithyll/Anor Londo and Archdrake Peak.

i enjoy both games atmosphere for what they are trying to deliver. DaS1 looks at its world with a tearful eye, a bit nostalgic and yearning. it makes sense that its a bit more colorful. DaS3 on the other hand is set pretty much a blink of an eye before the end of its world. it feels sick and gutted, very desperate.
though i even like how DaS2s atmosphere is all over the place once i accepted it as some kind of adventurer tale.

The Artorias fight pissed me off so much. It felt like From suddenly discovered that they could make enemies do unbreakable combos and threw all the combos that they had been missing into one fight. It was frustrating to be able completely dodge or block his attacks 90% of the time, then get tagged once and put into an unbreakable combo chain that kills me from full HP.
>>
>>336416160
>Holy shit this fight is cool. I haven't beaten him yet but he's totally having a go at me. Reminds me of Orphan of Kos's moveset.

Well they made Artorias of the abyss when they started working on Bloodborne.

Is very clear in the enemy design and the bossfights
>>
>>336416160
I can understand the similarities. I think Orphan of Kos is the hardest boss out of the entire series of these games. No boss had killed me even close to as many times as Orphan did.

I didn't fight Orphan until after the patch that fixed his memory leak by the way. I know there are people who beat him before that and think he's easy. Well, he's not. Especially with only 30 VIT.

dark souls 1 just has a massive advantage when it comes to building an interconnected and homogenous world. compared to 2 and 3 the game is actually pretty damn small. the great thing about DaS1 was that it felt like walking a thousand miles to get to one place while still feeling like youre in the neighborhood of firelink shrine. the world in DaS3 is just way too large to accomplish that
>>

Ehh, most of Bloodborne's hardest bosses come from the DLC
>>
>>336422832
doesn't make what I've said wrong. DS3 is piss poor easy if you've played other souls games, Bloodborne not so much.
>>
>>336422983
It does mean it's a lopsided comparison, since BB had the DLC to refine and improve the bosses.

Where as DS3 is still base.
If DS3 had it's own DLC and the bosses were still easier it would be a better one.
>>
>>336421228

he's not that hard... he has like 3-4 moves that he uses and you can just roll to dodge. like every souls boss it's about memorizing his move set and then it becomes trivial.
>>
>>336418013
You won't be able to make some long jumps with 60 fps. But those jumps are optional and few and far between.
>>
>>336422983
And I'm not saying that you are wrong, just that it's unfair to compare the games without DS3's DLC

>DS3 is piss poor easy if you've played other souls games, Bloodborne not so much.
That's mostly because bloodborne enemies are designed to punish most passive player behaviors one might carry from souls games, once you adapt to the aggressiveness it's not that different

The only hard part in that boss is when they go limit break and start to summon the giant snakes from the ground.
>>

Ya, usually you meet an NPC, they die and turn hostile the next time you see them, and you kill them and that's it. I know for the sake of the game they're not going to keep having him come back, but how is it explained in the lore?

The enemies in DaS3 feel like they were designed for Bloodborne with how fast they are but they shoved them into Dark Souls, and it just makes it feel incredibly clunky, especially without sidestepping.
I think that's why I really can't get into DaS3. I want to like it, I really do, but when I play it, it just makes me want to play Bloodborne instead.
>>
>>336426112

Just dash forward during fire. Cooldown is huge and the fire only hurts if you run away from her
>>
>>336426321
to be honest, some of these enemies are faster than a lot of Bloodborne enemies.

Not even, you literally only had to raise your shield and walk towards them. Since they often start with a jumping attack (pictured on the webm so you know I ain't making shit up), either they'll miss completely and fall to their deaths, or bounce off your shield and fall to their deaths anyway.
It was ridiculously easy, if annoying.

I played the shit out of DaS, never beat DaS2, beat DaS3, never played BB. I was used to blocking almost everything with my shield. I wasn't ready for the speed in DaS3 even though it's supposedly a lot slower than BB. Champion gundyr, pontyff and the nameless king were very relentless compared to just about every boss in DaS except gwyn, I guess. Now I looked at some DaS videos and the bosses seem so damn slow.

The Xbone controller feels really solid to me. The clicky Dpad is so gud and the headphone port is godsend. I love it, it's the best thing the Xbox has so it's a real treat to be able to use it on the PC.

I never beat DaS2 either, I think it was because they nerfed rolling so terribly. But rolling became viable again in DaS3, which is good and I'm having a real fun time.

You can still shoot a bow even if you don't have enough dex for it, it just does single digit damage. I'd imagine your musclebound roidmonster just trying to figure out how to make this bendy stick shoot another stick when it goes twang and hits someone in the bum.

Currently in the progress of getting the plat for Dark Souls. Just need Knight's Honor working through NG+ right now. It's a shame we will never get a game as good as this again. DS3 is good but it's not the same.

I love when they nail that bar/pub feeling of... receptivity, making you feel welcome and deared, without necessarily faking friendship or praising you. Making your presence feel appreciated.

It's weird, I know, but the maximum comfyness I felt like that was while talking with the owner of the cafe in Rhythm Heaven for the DS. And that was just a simple as fuck still picture, never even showing the anybody, with jazz playing in the background.

The pub in FF Tactics A2 was also fun as fuck. Just seeing people there, chilling, while you and your clan mates discussed your group's enterprises in that new, fantastic world.

Moments like these remember me how vidya is awesome.

>>336437174

The best part of the bar in Catherine was when I unlocked Persona music and put the jukebox to Memories of You on the final night.

Oh right. OP here, question

I've got a 10+ grass crest shield which helps with stamina, but I also have a mask of the child. Should I turn my shield into Artorias greatshield or keep the grass crest one so I've got plenty of stamina? I'm using a big zweihander.
