Did VR flop?
>>
We'll see when the ps vr is out
>>
Give it at least a year. If it's not selling too great then yes, it has flopped.
>>
>>336366661
Probably. Doesn't mean it was bad though, everyone who's actually used it was blown away. Just because something flops doesn't mean it was /bad/. Like Edge of Tomorrow.

Sales are good, lots of games are coming out, and the technology is advancing, so no.

Not becoming a /v/ meme is usually the best sign that something did alright.
>>
>>336366661
it didn't even start selling on stores
>>
>>336366661
My buddy has a vive, he is having the time of his life, most of what it is on the market right now is more gimmicky than the wii, literally not a single title that is not experimental like kinect lab titles. He is saying Occulus is holding VR back because Occulus shit does not have motion controls and the screen is shittier, Occulus ports to the Vive are notoriously poor looking because OR resolution is inferior...so he says.

Hover Junkers is the most approximate title to an actual game, I concur.

It may take another console generation, if VR last as long, before it gets a full game.
>>
I'm not even remotely interested in it. Literally every single VR exclusive game is some indie "le job simulator xD" trash.

It's all physics sandboxes and wacky simulators. Why the hell would I drop so much money on something with no good games?

When I buy one it'll be for ASMR and not even for games.

Most of the games will probably be shit.
>>
>>336366661
PSVR is gonna win.
>>
>>336366661
I'l consider buying one when there are racing games with multiplayer supporting that preferably if they have eurobeat and an ae86

Do you have any solid numbers to back that?
Because looking at steamspy the numbers are pathetic.
>>
>>336366661
If they can get it a little cheaper, it will do ok. Hopefully enough rich bitches get it to keep developing it.
>>
>>336368680
Not him but it's cheaper.

That's all it takes.
>>
>>336368814

Also support for real games

Even if the hardware is shit, the software is what matters
>>
>>336368683

>Because looking at steamspy the numbers are pathetic.

Just from the first 10 minutes of sales for the Vive, 15k were sold, generating $12,000,000 in revenue.

That figure has since doubled.

Not to mention the Oculus side, and PSVR selling out of pre-order stock almost instantly.
>>
>>336367142
People buy things they can't afford all the time, such as a new iphone every year
>>
>>336366661
give it time. it's a new technology trying to enter the market
>>
>>336369075
This pretty much.

No doubt its also gonna also have "experiences" and the smaller demo style games, but its also got a bunch of games lined up.
I feel Sony advertise it more, not even any huge campaigns, just on the net, they always got blog posts and shit about VR games coming to it, eve if they are coming to pc as well, like Distance, while Oculus/Vive seem to have pretty much relied on word of mouth until they launched when they started actually having trailers and shit.

I also think for better or worse, console players are also more open to trying peripherals.

Also its a closed system so its software is filtered.
I'm not saying everything on the store will b "100% gold should buy", like I said, there will no doubt be demo games and experiences, but that closed platform will filter out some of the "Here is a game that will last you 10 minutes I made by myself in Unity I'm selling for $5" stuff.

Its also got exclusives, which I don't think the others really have for the most part, which isn't a bad thing just another thing in psvr's corner.
I mean VR is already gonna be a pretty small market, so unless devs are aiming for something SUPER graphically intense, they will probably release it on all headsets, so Sony having their own studios to make stuff on top of that? Pretty handy.

I know there are a couple Oculus exclusives, but to my knowledge its not hard to make them work on the Vive.
>>
>>336366661
it will flop because nostandardization

enjoy your VR headset exclusive games

literally consoles all over again

Not only does the rift/vive support existing games too, you'd also have to buy a ps4k for the PSVR so it's not really cheaper.

Summer Lesson
>>
>>336370635
You can, just without head tracking, like playing on a cinema screen.

You wouldn't be able to do that with the ps4k anyway, devs have to specifically code that into their game.
>>
>>336370635

And no 3D? Worthless. You would need new hardware for 3D.

This video is bullshit. Just 20 minutes of cherry picked garbage.
>>
>>336371127
Are you stupid?
Thats not how VR works man, you don't just put it on and now whatever you are playing you are in the game world, devs have to put that into the game.

People on pc can't just fire up GTAV and start playing it perfectly in VR, cause the devs haven't put in a VR mode for it, they have to download mods made by randoms to make that work.

You couldn't get a ps4k then start playing Killzone in proper VR, cause it doesn't have a VR mode.

PSVR will bring in the average consumer, driving sales for PS4K, and for more people unaware of VR to try it easily. I foresee PSVR booths at Targets and shit. Then that will attract more interest in the Oculus and Vive too.

Honestly I don't see why games were the first jumping off point for VR though. It has so many more real world applications that would be easier to make than games.

Depends on the game.

Teleporting seems to be common for first person stuff, but Budget Cuts is the only one that really does that well.

Hover Junkers has you flying on a ship that you direct with one hand, shoot with another.

Few games are using traditional artificial locomotion, but everyone seems to be moving away from that.

of course it doesn't on a monitor like yours but I've seen everyone of my friends who don't give a shit about video games normally turn into little fucing children at the sight of that robot dog, yall need to start realizing that you can't possibly comprehend the experience of VR and how it makes you feel unless you try it, whtching these videos is just a waist of time.

You can all decide to ingore it until it shoved in your face eventually (it's not dying, way too late for that xD but keep saying so that's fine) or you can join the train early althogu when you do you'll start raging when ever a stupid VRgin compares it to the kinect or wii lol, either way idc, I'm playing hover junkers and flight sims.

Also ya those games are big sellers for V, but look up virtual desktop, raw data, warhawks, endless horror games, etc...

WUT? That's literally what is happening. Have you even looked at any of the games other than the highlighted ones? They are all mobile-tier garbo. VR was made for simulations but the effort required to make those kind of games is higher than what most people are going to bother with. People are just jumping in on the latest gimmick and trying to cash in on it while the iron is hot. The same happened with the Wii and guess what? Other than Nintendo making mad bank with hardware sales, the software sold rather poorly.

Point proven.

Sub-MM 3D positional laser tracking is not even close to the same thing as barely functioning gyro tracking.

They are all gimmicks fuck face.

You can have all the functionality you want, the fact is people will grow tired of VR fast just like every other gimmick

>>336377546
They are not gimmicks, ass hat.

The tech for a wii mote or Kinect was barely functioning as it was, so you only had gimmicky game designs because that's all that was possible.

The tracking for VR is so far advanced, any competent devs are creating much better games because of it.

You're so fucking dense it's almost embarrassing.

That's what people said about the PS Move/Leap Motion, and look what we got out of it.
The Move is also going to be used as motion controllers for the PSVR

All new tech is amazing but people get tired of it after awhile.

Remember 3d movies, it was so hyped and every big budget movie was in 3rd and then people realized that it wasn't worth the money to see the same thing in the normal way. Now 3d is still here but it's not something most movies use as a selling point.

People get tired of new tech after the initial hype.
>>
>>336366661
Developing technologies don't fucking flop like a single project does. VR is going to get better and better every year.
Once we do away with consoles it'll be even faster since developers won't have to meet their shit standards.
>>
Is that a consolefag thread?
I'm sure there have been literally no threads against VR, and suddenly this is getting some replies ?
>144 / 26 / 56
Yea okay much retards samefagging, yet you'd have to be REALLY dumb to underestimate VR as I've read in this thread so far.
>>
>>336375113
I'm past the point of thinking that you don't believe what you say and are trying to stir shit. The two reasons screens are tiring/bad for your eyes is, first, the contrast of something very bright on a backdrop of darkness, and the proximity of a screen to your face. Your eyes have to focus on something close to them for long periods, which they really weren't made to do. Supposedly this causes eye development problems in children though there isn't a lot of evidence one way or the other, and there's pretty much no evidence at all to the case of it being negative in the long term for adults. Modern VR goggles have neither of these problems because they take up the majority of your field of view, meaning your eyes are taking in bright light the way they would in reality, and the lens makes you focus into an actual 3d space where you are looking at distant objects, not at the screen 2 inches from your face. VR goggle eye strain is a nonissue meme created to fool idiots like you into parroting misinformation.

TL;dr

>>336366661
Too early to say
A product's life cycle is characterized by 3 stages
1. early adopters
2. Mid-life
3. end of life
Early adopters would be considered people who are buying VR because they think it looks cool, without any knowledge. These people would buy it regardless of whether it's good or not because it's so new nobody has formed an opinion. I think VR probably has done well in this stage because VR as a concept is brand new and exciting
Mid-life in a product is where the most money is made; In other words, once reviews are out, and the product has been on the market long enough for opinions to start forming, what are the numbers then? If a product does well in this stage, it isn't a flop
Finally, end of life would be when current VR technology becomes obsolete, price drops, etc. I would say that if a product hasn't turned a proft, or made a good impression with customers by then, it has definitely flopped.

Currently, I don't think VR technology has been available to the public long enough for people to have strong opinions, and to really see how well it's done.
>>
>>336378126
>>336378124
And VR's been out for long enough now, that if people were going to get tired of it, that would've already happened.
>>
>>336377964
I just did. What are you gonna do about it? Continuing to cry like you are?

>>336378571

Yes it's expensive bullshit and anyone who cares enough to buy one.Probably should wait because there will undoubtedly be better quality headsets in the future. You're dropping $600 - $800 on something you're definitely going to need to replace.

Let Vive, Occulus, PSVR fail and wait for a decent headset at a good price to release in 5-10 years time.

Oculus resolution is actually pretty similar to the Vive. Vive has motion controls but they're practically tied in every other field.
