It's F2P but with all the robot customization it doesn't really matter except for colours

Unless you build an extremely crappy robot with ten cubes a rail isn't going to one shot you anymore
Plus rails are shit for actual one-hit-kill sniping, you need atleast 3 potshots to kill someone, and helium is dead
The game more fair now, but the close-range shotgun is broken

Used to play the hell out of it, then they shitted up the tier system and locked a ton of options behind huge progress walls. Ended up taking away my fighter and satellite robots, and I was only left with my hover tank. Haven't touched it since.
