"Custom firmware" is usually more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. Gimped online, high risk of bans, can't update system firmware until crackers get around to figuring it out (if ever), etc.

You can blow past the regular game in about 2-3 hours. All characters are viable btw. except donkey kong. He hits weaker than everyone else and is slower than everyone else, with very little spin on his shots. I got 40 hours out of that game with just playing online. Damn, it was fun as fuck.

I'm used to unbalanced shit but in general splatoon feels like an arena shooter stripped down from anything that might be deemed advanced. The movement options feel a bit limited and having to go squid to move faster and stand to shoot feels like using ADS, you know, you din't have full mobility while attacking, but it's even worse you have to "ADS" spray the floor and then sprint to through the ink and repeat a second later, it's annoying. It's not a fun gimmick.
Also the bubble shield is a out of jail free card. Like, really?

Without the online features, the only real reason to hack your Wii U at this point in time is to restore altered content in Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Fatal Frame 5, and maybe Xenoblade X if you're done using the online to get achievements and shit.

I don't mind the movement mechanics, but I would like if walking speed was faster. They also need to get rid of that shit where you can get stuck in enemy ink, it just makes blasters too easy because you're guaranteed the second hit if you only graze them with the first.
There have also been some stupid cheese strats that have been emerging, like entire teams running stealth jump and quick respawn. One player gets on the tower, and his teammates just chain indefinately. The only counter is killing all 4 at once, because they respawn almost instantly.
