Hello, /v/. Don't mind me. I'm just listing meme graphics settings made for stupid retards who are willing to waste resources to make their game WORSE.

>vsync
>bloom
>motion blur
>chromatic aberration
>depth of field
>ambient occlusion

>ever using those
Why won't you smear your screen with vaseline while you're at it?
>>
>>336341751

You tarded, son?

Nice reddit filename you fag
>>
>>336341751
i will give you everything except vsync and occlusion

though i will concede that there are games that tend to overdo occlusion resulting in halos.
>>
>>336341751
i turn those settings off most of the time. i feel like it just makes it harder to see. i'd rather have cool effects and graphics instead of ones just trying to look real. also vsync causes mouse lag.

Witcher 2 was the worst offender for me. But it just doesn't work in general. Even when it is done well, It's way more uncanny than having nothing in there.

chromatic aberration can be cool (bloodborne)
did you forget antialiasing or you think it is actually improves picture?
>>
>>336342581
unless it's FXAA which is more subjective, AA objectively improves the image quality
>>
>>336342669
You don't need AA on a 1440p monitor though.
>>
Turning off AO instantly makes any game look a gen older than it actually is.
>>
>>336341751
chromatic aberration was fine in gta 5
>>
>>336342778
Not needing it doesn't mean it doesn't make the image better.
>>
>>336341751
What the fuck does AO even do? I usually notice a change when I switch it on and off but I can't quite put my finger on it. You're right about the rest, I particularly hate DoF, motion blur and bloom.

I never got the hate for vsync, I've never had any lag problems and it's a surefire way to not let my GPU deliver more frames than my monitor can handle.

V-sync is fine.
>>
All of those settings are fine except bloom. I dislike the glow it gives.

The only offender there is chromatic aberration, all of the rest can look good if used appropriately, and Vsync is useful in some games with really bad screen tearing
>>

>>336343481
The bottom half looks like shit with AO on. You're not making it look better, just hiding it with darkness

are you retarded son anon just explained what ao was
>>
It looks better with it on.
>>
>>336343569
Nigger the objects on the shelves look 100% better and actually a part of the scene. Without it they just look like they were copy pasted onto an MSPaint image. This is a huge issue with older games that AO helps remedy.

If you've ever bought a game that has ambient occlusion, you already have.
>>
There's nothing inherently wrong with bloom.

I only use v sync in games where input lag doesn't really matter.

Ambient occlusion is good and bloom is ok

Rest is meme shit
>>
>>336342379
>This stuff would only bother you if you have a shit video card
I always turn off motion blur, it's fucking terrible. Makes things impossible to see and depending on the game, it can make me dizzy.
>>
>>336344018
v-sync isn't universally bad like morons on /v/ would like you to believe. Only some games (the ones developed by retards who don't know what they're doing, or who choose a shit engine for their game) have really noticeable input lag with v-sync turned on.

Oh, so it's a filter to make things artificially darker instead of having proper ambient lighting? Cool.
>>
>>336344592
>proper ambient lighting
A fullbright scene is not proper ambient lighting. In fact, it's not lighting at all.
>>
While we are at it. How much does processor influence the FPS?

I am a poorfag and recently I have replaced my old shit card with GTX 960 in hopes that I would at least be able to run modern shit at low settings and I was surprised to see that I can get 50-60FPS out of most games on "high" settings despite the fact that I have an old ass i3-2120 and only 4gigs of ram. Should I crunch it up and get i5-6600k or something or it wouldn't make much difference?
>>
>>336343816
Still can't believe a game looked like this the same year Oblivion was released
>>
>>336341751
Hurrdurr vSync le xd

Nice bait.
>>
>>336344762
i3s have only recently started being a bottleneck and still only in select high profile games.

Generally speaking, any i5 past 2500 will last you a long time because current consoles have absoutely pitiful CPUs in comparison.
>>
>>336344848
It was the last great technological leap. For about 2 years since its release, people interested in high end PCs were asking "can it run Crysis?"
>>
>>336341751
Vsync is perfectly fine in everything that isn't a competitive online game.
>>
>>336344904
Everything about that post is bait. And I'll bite.

>>336341751
>vsync
Situational, not that I use it but I know people do get screen tearing.

>bloom
Bloom is like reverb, used adequately it looks good and is almost unnoticeable, but the effect is there. It doesn't help that a lot of games crank it up to the max.

>motion blur
Motion blur in games is a fairly new technology being developed. Yes, it may make sense to turn it off for now since it doesn't look that great, but I'm sure they're gonna make it look good in a few years.

It will never be good for competitive gaming, I'll give you that much.

>chromatic aberration
I don't mind the way it looks in Bloodborne.

>depth of field
Same as motion blur, except that we already have good DoF algorithms.

>ambient occlusion
See >>336342789 I don't know of a single modern game that can be improved by turning AO off.

Also you forgot lens flares and tone mapping. But I guess as the pleb that you are that's understandable.
>>
>>336344592
Use VXAO then.
>>
>>336345036
A lot of people don't even know it but the current Cryengine also has a bunch of things other engines don't have. I have no idea why it's not more popular.
I mean for fucks sake they have real time global illumination and no game is making use of it.

You're stupid. A filter is something that happens after the scene has been rendered, right before the UI gets drawn on the screen.
AO is an approximation of natural shadows. Yes, shitty algorithms will look shitty, but modern ones look stunning. Look at The Division for example, that game has great AO.
"Proper" ambient lighting would mean that you have to wait one day for each frame to be rendered.
>>
>play game
>everything in OP enabled by default

Really nigga?
You do know that shit actually makes everything look like it's more realistic right? Shit AO maps are one of my best tools for texturing, gives it some nice dirt and grit and removes the flatness of baked lighting.
