Yeah, there's talk of one in the dev room. They intend to add more playable protagonists than Josuke. Who knows if that will ever actually happen. I should play it again soon, I've done shit in the way of routes other than Jotaro's.

Part 2 was the worst bunch of nonsensical fights ever seen. Every fight devolved into "i actually did this while you weren't looking and so you lose!". The fight against Straights: "you actually have grenades on your back!". The fight against ACDC: "there are actually more ropes than you thought there were!". Joseph hogged so much of the spolight and the Pillar men were lame ideas for villians too.
I don't mean to sound too harsh because it was better than part 1 for sure, but it still shouldn't get ranked higher than just about any other part.

I probably did come off like I hated it with how I wrote that.
I don't hate part 2 itself, I just really don't agree with it's ranking above so many other parts. Later jojo parts did the same thing with the "you actually fell into my trap!!", but at least the stand powers were more creative than what they had to work with with hamon.
Awareness really doesn't excuse what it did and I don't think part 2 deserves the praise it gets. It certainly shouldn't be rated above 8 in any circumstances, and while debatable I think 5 and 6 go above it too.
All Star Battle was a good fighting game and didn't deserve to be stiffed by the competifag community just because of muh frame rate.
41 characters with distinctive fighting styles is nothing to sneeze at, and CC2 legitimately tried with several balance patches that did improve the game.
The only things bad about ASB were PCs taking up 1 whole meter, and the fucking netcode (but all japanese games have shit netcode so that's barely valid).

I don't agree. It has a number of things going for it in terms of competency. Joseph is definitely suited to being a protagonist, and there are events that impact him emotionally. Compare Jotaro, who reacts stoically rude to everything and is as dynamic as a block of wood (which is part of the reason why repurposing him as more of a mentor figure for 4 was good)

It is highly debatable whether 2 is better than 3, I'll concede there. I think it is simply because stands are a much more interesting idea than hamon and laid a much more solid ground work for the future parts. Jotaro was a weak protagonist but the supporting cast of 3 is MUCH better than 2.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. Joseph's crazy coolness really carries the part for me, if I'm being honest. That and the fact that fights are ruse cruises from both parties, instead of being straightforward fights turned on their head at the last minute by the protagonist.
The jury's still out for me on part 8, and it's certainly better than the badly translated mess part 5 is or the dullness of part 6.

part 3 is the worst part to be honest. none of the fights outside the d'arby brothers and dio are interesting, and the plot is a poorly paced trod through dozens of uninteresting stand users. Stand of the week at its absolute worst. it doesn't even have a good cast; jotaro is a tryhard edgelord, joseph lost his crazy edge and is ebin overreaction man, polnareff is an obnoxious focus stealing clown, and avdol and kakyoin might have been cool if they ever got any fucking screentime.
Although I find a lot of Stand's powers cool and well used I think most Stand's actual appearance are pretty boring

Seriously dude, at least part 3 was mostly consistent. Do you remember that party of Zeppeli's friends that just show up 3/4th's of the way into part 1? And how one of them existed solely to show how scary Dio's cool ice power is?
Plenty of the stand fights were interesting outside of those too, did you forget Death 13? N'Doul? Even Hanged Man?
I also disagree about the characters, Polnareff was a pretty cool dude and I always liked Joseph more in 3 than 2, his personality fit the crazy old man look more than the weird new york gangster thing he had in 2.
I won't try and say that 3 is better than 2 but 3 is for sure better than 1.

You're arguing subjective enjoyment. I mean to say that I believe 2 is objectively a more structured, consistent story; regardless of how much enjoyment you get from it. I can only speculate that he had a lot of amibition behind the creation of stands, because despite its very rigid formula on paper (or "stand of the week" as its so called) it's all over the place in terms of its ideas, plot developments, characterization; on this subject, I don't think you can accurately say "supporting cast" because it's very clear you can tell Araki realized his mistake with Jotaro partway through and switch his focus for much of it to Polnareff. You see him respond emotionally to things, and he kind of has something resembling character development at points.
What I'm trying to get at is while both parts are stories with a clear end-goal in mind, for better or worse, part 3 is much more experimental with weirdly inconsistent tone, left-field character changes or additions, strange death fakeouts, ideas being in flux (particularly the conventions and rules of stands), and plot threads seemingly changing direction on a whim (DIO's hermit purple, anyone?)
It surely all stems from Araki developing the idea of stands and how to make the plot work with them. I'm willing to say that if you took the characters, ideas, and the plot and gave them to the Araki of today- maybe even the Araki of Part 4- you'd have a really well made story. But as it, it's just this bizarre stew of concepts that don't really gel with eachother. Which, admittedly, might work for some people.

He was only good in Part 3 when he was either interacting with show-stealers like Joseph or Polnareff or a villain who was super-eccentric. If there wasn't anyone to play off of his almost-comical stoicism and his extremely generic "bad guy with a heart of gold" personality he would be like a walking tree trunk.
Meanwhile in Part 4 he plays second fiddle to a cast of characters with way more energy and personality, but is still able to hold his own by contrasting with them and retaining his badassery, which you now get in short concentrated bursts.

the Joestar bloodline has some weird soul resonance thing going on. When Dio stole Jonathan's body he basically stole his way into the bloodline, making him part of that resonance. Getting hit with the arrow caused 'reverbs' across the joestar bloodline which caused them all to develop stands.

In Part 7 the series actually graduates from shounen to some interesting storytelling and good characters but it's almost constant downhill from 1 to 6 and I'll never understand the shit PB receives. I think they just don't care. They're at least 16 now anyway, since part of the reason he made Jolyne was because he wasn't happy with his older female characters and wanted to get them right, with a character that he thought his daughters would want to read about when they were older. Good thing too, he can actually write good female characters now too. The biggest reason I like this series is because Araki is always trying new things and he's never just stayed doing something comfortable that'd net him a lot of money, he's a;ways pushing himself to be original and it pays off.
