Depends on what you're doing, if it's a regular let's play with you playing and talking people are most likely going to overlook that shit because it's boring, sorry but you missed the train, what you can do is make it interesting, something new, and know where to post it, if you go to a place where there's only let's players you'll be a raindrop in the middle of the sea, but if you go to somewhere where there's no active youtubers around, you'll be sure to be noticed, then you'll start building up fame, and even start meeting new uploaders.

Play games that don't have playthroughs up on Youtube. Which sounds real hard but seriously, unless you wind up with a viewerbase who digs you you might as well do the internet a service and put video content up of stuff that doesn't have it yet.
That being said if you want to crank out a playthrough of a game you really like go for it, talk about how you like it and what you know about it's development or whatever. Someone might stumble upon that and dig it.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a new game. Let's playing new games isn't even that useful anyway you know? If people type in "Dark Souls 3 Let's Play" into Youtube they aren't gonna click your video, your video has no views so it doesn't show up as the first result.
Even if it is something that's been done before do it differently you know? No one wants to watch you play Gradius. They can just play Gradius themselves. But hey, maybe play Gradius without getting hit, and put that in the title. If the game's been done before do it differently.
Reach out to other let's players without many views, have them watch you play Gradius while helping you commentate. Commentate with them on their videos. It's not too hard. And don't get into lp-ing for views or money, if you're not having fun doing it just drop it, it's fine. Other peopel will play Gradius on the internet without you.
