So we find Capra Demons, Taurus Demon, Stray Demons and Mushroom people in DS3.

Where/when does DS3 happen compared to DS1?
>>
>>336305761
Pretty far in the future. You can find Quelana's corpse in there, too. Lorian probably slayed the Old Demon King, which caused the eventual exctinction of demons.
>>
What armor is that
>>
Why do the Darkwraiths attack the goat people?
>>
>>336305761
Far in the future.

It's implied that the Profane Flame is dying out, the thing that spawned demons. It's not clear what killed them though.
>>
Where are the mushroom people? And what the hell are those bird things coming out of the walls in smoldering lake?
>>
>>336307582
maybe to kill the abyss watchers?

idk
>>
>>336307940
Mushroom people are in an alcove in Keep.
>>
>>336307940
In Farron, round up in a corner like raped women after a war
>>
>>336307582
Probably on their way to try and fuck up the Watchers.

Eh, they would've lost. Probably.
>>
>>336308307
What's the lore behind the Watchers?
>>
>>336308454
They rapemurdered entire cities for showing signs of Abyss.

And naturally they got corrupted, which is why we see them murdering each other right before we plant an axe in the main Watcher's face.
>>
>>336308578
So they're basically anti-Darkwraiths. Neato.

Drang set. Found in the church on the ground near the repentant titan. It's literally the Llewellyn set from DS2 though. Lore, stats, model is the same but they changed the name. Which is weird because there's a "Llewellyn shield" in the game that uses the same gay steel that makes the Llewellyn set so light but high in resistances. I asked VaatiVidya what he thought about this but he blocked me on youtube and twitter and proceeded to make a video about it. Which would be fine but all he did in the video was mention he found the discrepancy all by himself and that he's very sad he's people aren't kindling his channel anymore (whatever the hell that means)
>>
>>336308307
>Watchers can be stunlocked incredibly easily
>Dark Wraiths have ultra 7 hit combos with a spin for style
>There are 2 of them

They would have shit all over the Abyss Watchers before a second one woke up, nevermind if the Abyss infected Watcher gets up.
>>
>>336309795
Pretty sure the notmaria Watcher would just faceroll them.

Probably.
>>
>>336308578

so they're Artorias fanboys who took it so far to get consumed in the exact same way he did?

Goat people are essentially the descendants of the acolytes of the abyss watchers if you read the farron dart and other item descriptions.Might be they're protecting against the darkwraiths
>>
>>336310070
thats pretty fucking rad
>>
>>336309795

dude the darkwraiths can get gutted by the goat people, they're not that good.
>>
>>336310056
Probably wasn't their intent to get consumed, corrupted but it's not too far fetched to say they're Artorias' fanboys, yea. Legend of Artorias was a pretty big deal. No surprise it would inspire hollows uniting for a greater purpose. DS3 Crestfallen is actually my favorite Crestfallen because of this. Funny how most people don't even catch that he wears the same armor as them.
>>
>>336310070
How's this happen?
>>
>>336310287
Probably let them in when there isn't a fogwall present for your first encounter.
>>
>>336310287
It's like a one-in-a-million bug where enemies can clip through the fog wall
>>
>>336310070
He would have fucked him up if he stopped trying to Dark Hand. And that's just one of them. Imagine if the second one got in too.
>>
>>336310056
Based on the descriptions they drank the blood of the wolf which could be related to either Artorias himself or Sif.

>Why do the Darkwraiths attack the goat people?

The Darkwraiths are on there way to kill the Abyss Watchers because they're at war with them: The Abyss watchers religiously hunt down anything from the Abyss and the Darkwraiths are free-lance knights overtaken and completely obsessed with the Abyss.

The Goat people are ex-farron acolytes/undead/humans of the undead legion: They became corrupted by chaos and the swamp and became the Ghru goat demons.

Some of them remained loyal to the farron legion and continued their duties within the swamp.

Most of them however left the swamp and started new lives within Izalith and the other demons.

But really I just love the idea of the Abyss Watchers being a sort of last ditch effort to stop yourself from going hollow. Like being a NEET who is running out of autismbux so you decide to join the army.
>>

>>
>>336310740
>What's the lore on crestfallen? Why does he seek to be a dragon?

If I had to guess the Cresftfallen is a deserter of the Farron's Undead legion: He seemed to have the skill, strength and potential to become an Abyss watcher himself, but for some reason he abandoned the order.

With his abandonment of the Farron's legion he ventures off in search of the DRAGON PEEK and the DRAGON STONES to become a DRAGON.

The game mentions a lot that the Dragon's cult is a cult of "few words"; Maybe Crestfallen wished to be free of the politics, paranoia, corruption and beaucracy that the Farron's Undead Legion was succumbing to and began idolizing the "purity" and simplicity of the dragon cult?
>>
>>336311056
But if he could not forge anymore then what would he do? I know he is not Vamos but it was pretty clear that smiting made him happy.

>>
>>336307169
>>336311571

Lorian doesn't slay the Old Demon King: He slays the Old Demon' Kings SON.

Lorian's Sword says, "Before Lorian embraced his brother's curse, he was a knight who single handedly slayed the demon prince, but the victory eternally scorched his sword with flame."

Which if anything makes it more sad because the Old Demon King probably had very high hopes for his son: grow up, become a new king, maybe even find a way to kindle the chaos flame.
>>
>>336311183
He doesn't off himself, he just sets down a new path. The Path of a Dragon.

Spoilers if you haven't done it yet but: You can summon him for Nameless King fight and Consumed King, both of which have to do with Dragons. After you get the Twinkling Dragon stone, he challenges you to a duel. When you kill him in the Abyss Watcher room he drops Twinkling Dragon Head and claims "You are a dragon... more Dragon than I."
>>
>>336311280
You find him in a room full of his dead original allies, he's barely standing, with a missing eye, but fires up one last time to fuck this intruder, then in a last ditch effort releases all his flame to kill you. Failing so he barely even moves and can't even lift his hammer. Even the music changes.

From a lore perspective, he's one of the last links to DaS1 being severed, everyone is dead, or fucked up, only Priscilla's fate is unsure, but either way, here you find the last being who saw the birth of the demons in izalith dying.

Enemies can move past the barrier that starts the cutscene before you cross it, if you cross it while they are on the opposite side they will get stuck in the bossroom, they won't naturally walk in though, the trick is to get them to start their combo and dodge through them when they kick so they move forward into the boss room, you can only do it before you trigger the cutscene for the first time

What shit? The buildings and all that? Undead in Dark Souls aren't literal zombies, that's Hollows. Undead can do anything people can. The reason why so many people you encounter are braindead in these games is because they're always set at the end of an age when the fire is fading and things are falling apart. There is presumably time in which the world and these kingdoms are properous between games, when the age of fire is going strong.

I think it looks like a fairly warped elite knight helm. It could be derived from something else, or intended to look unique, though. There's lots of parts of Soul of Cinder's armour that look somewhat like the elite knight set, and others that don't really look like it. Even if they wanted to call back to that armour set, I wouldn't be surprise if they consciously made a few alterations, on top of warping it.

>WHAT ABOUT THE FURTIVE PYGMY SHIT

-The Furtive Pygmy found the DARK SOUL within the original fire and that was basically humanity.

-Not interested in ruling he just sort of chilled out at the bottom of the world while expanding and multiplying his dark souls; since unlike the lord souls it just kept getting bigger and bigger.

-The Dark Soul began producing HUMANS and this wasn't a problem originally, but there eventually came to be so many of them that the gods couldn't ignore them anymore and they had to accept them in society or be over run, etc..

-Time passes on and Manus' body is eventually unearthed by the people of Oolacile. A serpent tells them they could get AMAZING powers and prestige if they consume his humanity.

-Oolacile tortures the SHIT out of Manus so he'll produce MORE humanity. Manus takes it in stride, but eventually his locket is stolen and he goes BERSERK.

-Manus poisons his own humanity creating the Abyss and fucking over Ooolacile: he then exiles himself in the deepest hole he can find to try and prevent it from spreading; while using the power it's given him to look for his lockets. He's eventually slain by a time traveler.

-The Fragments of Manus are born into this world as beautiful daughters that wish to spread the Abyss Manus created. Fore whatever reason they leave lordran and collectively venture to Drangleic- maybe because it has the biggest access of Human King cock and Lordran is full of Giants and Gods who don't want none of that Abyssal pussy.

>The Daughters of Manus have "mixed results". They all spread the abyss in their own way.
>>
>>336313379
Time is broken pretty much solely in this game, the entirety of the game takes place in a time loop, beginning with the rekindling of the flame by the player in the previous cycle where the bell didn't ring and ending when the player wakes back up to gather the flames to return to the past to ensure it can all happen.

>>336313984
If Dark Firelink Shrine is the past where the flame was never rekindled, the only way to make a future age of fire is to literally go back in time with the fires of the lords of cynder to rekindle the dying flame.

If the time travel theory is to be believed, the only possible way for the games events is for it to be an infinite time loop, where the events of the game are in effort to gain the fire of the lords of cynder to rekindle the dying flame in the past to ensure you awaken as an ashen vessle in the first place.

The DLC will be about finding out why the bell didn't ring in the past, why the lords left their thrones, what the "betrayal" originally was, and breaking free of the time loop.
>>
>>336307919

>Undead in Dark Souls aren't literal zombies, that's Hollows. Undead can do anything people can.

Hollows are the natural state of Humans, and they aren't really zombies either. It's the Curse of Undeath that makes them that way. Mindless and desperate.

You start Human, become Undead when you get the curse, then the First Flame starts leeching out your souls which makes you hunger for more. If your will is strong enough then you're probably going to be okay even if you go Hollow. If your will is weak, then the hunger drives you mad and you become a fucking brainless, bloodthirsty zombie murderhobo when you Hollow.

Dark Firelink Shrine is in the same traversable game world as every other area in the game besides the firelink you use as a hub. Unless you're saying time distorts as you walk down a hallway, that means the entire game, High Wall of Lothric, Farron Keep, etc. are all taking place in a time in which the fire faded. If it's faded so much you need to go back in time to kindle it, then that means the game takes place in an age of dark, and the only place in the game that is not set in the age of dark is the tutorial area and firelink shrine, which you're saying is the past, before the fire faded? So your guy wakes up, goes to firelink, for some reason is teleported forward into an age of dark to collect the cinders of all these lords, bring them back to the firelink in the past, and link the fire before the fire fades.

Why would you go into the future, an age of dark, which by the way only looks like an age of dark in untended graves, to collect these cinders? What are they doing still hanging around? And this wouldn't actually be a time loop. There's no looping component. You wake up, go to the shrine, go to the future, get the shit you need, come back, and either stop that future by linking the fire, or ensure it by letting it fade.

Or are you saying that the kiln of the first flame, where you go to fight the soul of cinder, is the place that's in the past, and not the normal firelink shrine? So you wake up, do all of this shit, and then go back in time to the kiln to link the fire, which is what lets you wake up later to do it again. That would be a loop, I suppose, but then why are there two firelink shrines? The normal one, and the dark one? If the dark one is an age of dark, that still means the rest of the game is in the age of dark. And then, when is the normal firelink?

I'm not sure how you got to this, but maybe I'm misunderstanding.
>>
>>336315003
I know I said "literal zombies", but I didn't mean literally zombies. I just meant that Hollows are the ones that behave like zombies, that is to say, mindlessly, and just being Undead doesn't mean you can't function as a person.

What I am saying is the latter, the reason its not an age of dark when you awaken is because you rekindled the flame preventing it as it was about to die out.

In dark firelink the shrine handmaiden states the bell never rang, the ashen one never awoken, meaning the lords weren't delivered to their thrones and the fire was about to die, the only way to prevent the age dark beginning would be to kindle that flame.

Normal Firelink takes place after the rekindling and as the fires begin to fade once more, this time the bell rings, but the only way this cycle can exist is if the previous cycle is saved, which is what you do.

(This is if the time travel is to be believed)
Alternatively (and more likely) Kaathe tricked everyone in an attempt to steal the flame and succeeded partially (being the betrayal mentioned) and Ludleth basically fucked him over at the last second by willing himself into a lord of cynder and splitting the flame, rekindling it the best he could alone and horrifically burning his body, the fire then returned to the lords which fucked off because they wanted nothing to do with Kaathe or the fire anymore, and as you travel deeper and deeper into Lordran where the abyss has taken root your mind is warped by it, and seeps into your memories those of the past or even transporting you to it. The regular firelink shrine is devoid of the abyss's influence which could either mean it is an illusion, or dark firelink is just the culmination of the influence of the Abyss.

Keep in mind that the flame knows not time as well, the sword you pull out of the Champion could have been what sealed the original and been part of the betrayal that took place (doing so frees both, and the other stuck in the abyss gets corrupted near instantly). I want to see what angle the DLC takes shit in because there is too much that isn't explained.

Aldritch is his own special blob. The snakelike ones seem to be connected to the abyss, of the dark soul humans have. But Aldrich was presumably human once, too, so maybe it is similar. Though he became blobby by eating people, and doesn't display the same snakelike appearance or aggressive behaviour.

I'm confused. How many times has the fire been linked? Given that the chosen undead in DaS1 stumbles upon Gwyn at the Kiln of the First Flame, I assume he was the second to do so? But the entire them of the Lord of Cinder is that a whole bunch of undead have linked the flame. Or is that just some "time and space distortion" nonsense?
>>
>>336318579
>Why is she holding some huge flesh sack in a room full of cribs?

She's a fertility goddess much like Gwynevere, and in fact she can create Blessed Water which is a miracle we've only seen Gwynevere perform.

So Rosaria is either Gwynevere, or a daughter of Gwynevere much like the Dancer.
>>
>>336318820
Fire's been linked multiple times
And each time the Age of Fire is weaker than the last
>>
>>336318820
given that linking the fire causes the last 1000 years to literally repeat themselves a la NG+, it's impossible to know how many times it's been linked by the time of DaSIII. Hell, it could have been linked countless times before DaS1 and we'd be none the wiser.
>>
>>336318820

>>336318927
>And each time the Age of Fire is weaker than the last

So what, should we just let the Fire go out and wait for it to reignite, or Usurp the fire and claim it within the bosom of a single powerful Undead?

Personally, I really want to see Aldia show up and provide the third option, because with the Age of Fire decaying into nothing and the Age of Dark being unacceptable, this is exactly Aldia's time to shine.

>>336318992

DaS 1 is canonically always the second time the fire's been linked, NG+ just resets you to the second Linking, not the third+.

The reason 3 is even an event in the story is because of what 2 established - the land itself is cursed and is reborn again with different kingdoms.

That being said, I honestly hope 3's DLC touches more on 2's story because I thought 2's story was better

Drangleic is a settled place, although Vendrick's kingdom has fallen into ruin and another took it's place. The Drang knights are from there, exiled as traitors due to their meddling in the Abyss (which is why they chose to side with the Cathedral of the Deep, who are experts in the Abyss and what lay even deeper.)

By and large Miyazaki has given Dark Souls 2 the curious Japanese treatment of "it's dead to me," even though it was a far better story than Dark Souls 3. The only thing we can hope for is Aldia showing up in the DLC.

Kind of unrelated, but what other fantasy stories are out there similar to the Souls games? I've never been able to get into fantasy fiction; the whole tolkien aesthetic bores me. Can't do traditional elves and dwarves and such, and the warring of kingdoms and political intrigue stuff doesn't do it for me. But something about the Souls games, maybe the eastern flair given to more traditional western designs, or how most of the plot/character development revolves around gods and beings higher than mortal kind (Yet still get their ass kicked by some lowly broadsword wielding shmuck). I dunno

I'd like to get into more of it, but I'm not sure where to look

We have no idea what the age of dark is like. I assume it's different from being consumed by the abyss. Absolutely all of the lore we have about the world is mythos from the age of fire, gods who brought about the age of fire and kept it running, everything that rose and fell during it, a couple of leftover dragons from the age of ancients, and some nods to the existence of an age of dark and what that might loosely entail.

A game set in the age of dark would be a great opportunity to build up an entirely new setting but still have it be built off of the previous games.

Just ask questions in threads already talking about the lore, like this one.

The games are always about linking the fire or deciding not to. The games are always set at the end of the Age of Fire, which was the properous age where Gods like Gwyn ruled. Humans were there too, but they were a bunch of nobodies. The reason why the world's gone to shit in the games is because the fire is fading and the age is coming to and end, and the Undead Curse is more of a problem when the fire fades.

Apparently they were trying to make the story less about the fantasy demon elements and more about the rivalry/friendship amd hubris. Which they accomplished excellently.

Who was this guy and why was he in the intro?

If you look closely he's actually performing the same pose that you do when you kneel down at the bonfire to be transported to flameless shrine after killing all the lords. Also, ash sprinkles down upon his head the same way the fire keeper sprinkles ash upon yours as you kneel.

So we can assume this guy is an unkindled, but what was the body he was dragging along?

I feel that the bonfire sacrifice mechanic being cut was also an indication of the story being massively retooled as well.

A DLC set in the Age of Gods would be nice, before Gwyn left to link the fire. Fighting full-power Gwyn and all four knights at once would be fun. Also we'd actually get to kill Gwynevere so that stupid slut can finally eat shit, how dare she get a happy ending when nobody else does.

I've been looking for the same thing for a while now and have found very little that's like it in terms of vidya.

Dark/epic fantasy is surprisingly way too rare, stuff like Skyrim, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma etc. all try to do fantasy but in a mostly "believable" setting that accommodates humans and how they tend to live. Sometimes they have cool stuff like the Daedric realm, that entire world traveling section in W3, the ending of DD, but it's usually just the same old open fields and forests and towns.

I wish there was more full blown impossible and crazy stuff, look at shit like Kiln of the First Flame, Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, the Painted World, Dragon Shrine, Lost Bastille, etc. All these areas are larger than life and defy the laws of OUR world and that's what makes them so great. Some of it looks like shit straight out of a Beksinski painting and I wish there were more games like that.

>>336320407

Same sort architecture, same layout for the very bottom building of Oolacile, entrance and boss room, same type of Colosseum, both cities drifting down a dark, abyssal cave formation, the use of "Profane" in the name, which has connotations very similar to what happened in Oolacile (the upturning of manus' grave). Enemies in that area have literal Manus' hands for heads. But it's all coincidences, I assume. They didn't call a kingdom that was already destroyed for ages and forgotten during the events of Dark Souls 1 by its proper name, so I guess that means it cannot possibly be it.

The age of dark is the age of men, is what Kaathe says in the first game. As opposed to the age of fire being the age of gods. age of dark is age of men because Humans each have a piece of the Dark Soul in the series' mythos. Being dark doesn't necessarily mean evil, just dark. The dark soul was one of the four lord souls yanked out of the first flame at the beginning of the very first age of fire, the other three were taken by those who would become gods with them and keep them to themselves, mostly, whereas the dark soul was spread around to make humans.

The Abyss was spawned by Manus in the DLC of the first game. Manus was a human who unleashed the abyss after getting his humanity fucked around with by Oolacile. It's a void, you get consumed by it. It seems like something advantageous to people who want to spread Dark, but humans get consumed by it too, so it's not clear. The Four Kings fight in the first game was in the abyss, which is why you need a ring to not die in it. The Untended Graves area in DaS3 seems like it's an area that's been consumed by the abyss, although you can walk around in it without any trouble and just leave whenever you want.

No idea what the deep is. Some horseshit Aldrich came up with in this game. It's related to water, which is similar to how much of the nightmare and the old one stuff in Bloodborne had to do with the ocean, but ultimately it's unclear. It might just be another interpreation of the age of dark or the abyss.

The Dark is just the opposite of fire. Cold, but calm and serene, something that removes the power of fire from anyone who has it and, presumably, fucks up all the 'gods' who rely on fire/lord souls for their strength and makes them go into hiding until it ends.
The Abyss is to the Dark what Chaos is to Flame. Unpredictable, wild, and it spreads like mad, causing mutations and aberrations wherever it goes - but in the theme of the Dark instead of Fire.
The Deep is a third 'age' of deep waters/oceans, or just a new concept that revolves around the idea of there being something lower than the abyss where the absolute heaviest dregs of a human soul fall to rest.
most of this is just me talking out of my ass

My shitty theory is that londor = new londo that got repopulated sometime after the CU pulled the plug from the bath. Which explains the abyss/dark fuckery going on there and Yuria's relationship to Kaathe, since he "lived" there

It's a lot more likely that they were always going to use that as the final boss, and Bandai Namco decided to use it for all of the promotional material. They tried to hide it poorly by always showing him wielding regular weapons, even in that special edition statue he just has two shitty swords.

I mean, it isn't really a spoiler until you see it. I just assumed that armour was gonna be something you found eventually in the game, maybe with some significance. By the time I got to the end of the game I mostly forgot about it, and was surprised when I saw Soul of Cinder. It's not like any of the promo stuff tells you who that is, and seeing it in advance doesn't do anything because "who" is it doesn't mean anything out of context.

>>336322642
The time of night was really important in Bloodborne, is probably why it was more consistent. The eclipse is kind of important in this game but not quite as blatantly, and they know they've gotten away with ti in DaS before so I guess they thought they didn't have to bother.

In some ways. The world is less connected, but the areas each have more self-contained complexity to them. What you think of the combat, enemy, and boss design is up to you. I think the mechanics are better but DaS1 is still more memorable in a lot of ways. Even though I have more fun fighting bosses in 3 because I just like how it feels more and the bosses have a little more going on, the bosses in the first game just have more character. The world, too. But that might just be the nature of sequels, and an inevitable aspect of how hard the first game has been memed to date.

Don't forget there are !3! firelink shrines in the game
1 is the main hub
2 is untended graves
3 is where you end up after you get all the lord souls and right before you go into the kiln of the first flame.

Everyone seems to be arguing over 2 firelinks, forgetting that there are THREE.

If the time travel theory is correct, kiln firelink is the past before the fire fades, untended graves is the past after the fire fades ( evidence that it's the past is shrine maiden dialogue when you talk to her there first before you talk to her in hub firelink, and well as gundyr apparently ). Don't know what the fuck the deal is with hub firelink/cemetary of ash though.

I'd say Manus is at least equal to fp Gwyn and we fucked Manus up something fierce. Then it goes like... Aldia and Nameless King, and Seath.

Bed of Chaos seems equal to Gwyn too, and so does fp Nito although he was severely drained when we fought him.

So Chosen Undead killed two supremely powerful beings in BoC and Manus and Seath who was farther amped by a shard of the Lord Soul.

Wouldn't be a stretch to say someone else could beat Gwyn when the others beat Aldia, Ancient Dragon, Aldricholyn and Nameless King, although the Chosen Undead was a fucking psycho.

>clear blue sky in Dragonpeak

Not real.

>From goes for feels more than consistency when it comes to that. Just like how it's always night in Darkroot garden.

That's exactly the opposite, From pays inordinate attention to that. Darkroot has a sun, it's just misty enough for it to look like a moon. The illusory sun in Anor Londo is in a completely different place in the sky from the real one, which is blocked by the mountain wall.

That also doesn't change the fact that it has a different landscape surrounding it than Lothric. Why wouldn't they just use that landscape if they were going for least effort?

Except Manus isn't. His Dark Soul is split among all of humanity. Also I don't know why you think Aldia even belongs with the others when the DS2 guy beat him, and he's the weakest protagonist.
Seath was a blind crazy cuck when we fought him. Kalameet was probably stronger when we fought him.
Bed of Chaos isn't really Gwyn's equal, since it's just a bug and Gwyn could just kill it with a lightning spear whenever he wanted. Even the demon's it made are nothing compared to Dragons.
Nito wasn't even that drained, since Pinwheel only got the right of kindling from him and was weak as fuck. Gwyn at his prime made the silver knights, went head on with all the dragons, and fucking took over the world. I mean Nito and the Witch helped, but they were like the support, working from the shadows. Gwyn was the one actually fighting. Seath t his prime was probably pretty strong too, assuming he killed all those dragons in the beginning movie and wasn't just posing.

tl;dr, there is no way we could take on Gwyn at his prime lorewise, unless the game pulls a BB and we become a Lord, like Gwyn, The Witch of Izalith, or Nito.

Manus woke up and caused an everlasting Chaos that created fragments that were powerful enough to overthrow kingdoms.

I'm not talking his theoretical form, I'm talking about what he did. Nor am I using head canon for it.

Seems pretty clear that Manus is at the very least equal. Hell the guy was punching through time purely because he wanted to dick Dusk.

>>336323839
It was never said that the Bed of Chaos grew weaker. In fact if anything it grew more powerful from that. Though a really shitty fight, but by canon it was at full power just transformed into something it couldn't control.

And Manus was pretty much at full power. It was never said to take a hit. And Seath was an immortal everlasting Dragon with a small amp from its lord soul. He was the same strength if not more powerful due to years of research. He just became crazy. Hell Seath got the same shard that the 4kids got which was a lot, but it shows Manus' power that he can fuck them over. Even moreso is Manus treating Artorias like a fuccboi.

Didn't Manus corrupt Kalameet too?
>>
>>336324338
>and he's the weakest protagonist.

das1 is the weakest protag. the strongest boss in das1 was kalameet, and sinh is literally just a direct upgrade. and going by lore, das1 is the weakest since all he had to do was fight hollowed out lords and nito whos power had all been sucked dry from pinwheel.
>>
>>336322814
Mhmm, even though there's a lot more refined elements, DaS3 just drops the ball a few too many times for it to be better than DaS1. Still enjoying it a lot and haven't been vastly disappointed like with DaS2.

Except there's no signs of Lothric knights or soldiers anywhere in the Demon Ruins or Smouldering Lake as whole. All you find are just dead Demons and I think two Black Knights just running around, murdering the remaining inhabitants.

DaS1 protagonist killed Manus, the guy who created the fucking Abyss.

That alone puts him way above the protagonist of DaS 2.

The weakest protagonist would be the Ashen One, but doing the Lord of Hollows ending he straight up surpasses the Chosen Undead.

Yeah I guess, but didn't Seath develop the immortality crystal after years of research? I doubt he had it when he turned on his own, since he did it out of jealousy for not having immortality, and if he already had the crystal then he would have had no reason to turn. Like I can't picture Seath, as he is in game after you destroy his crystal, or make the blind idiot destroy it himself, taking on this many everlasting dragons. He has to be weaker in game due to dementia or something, which doesn't really make sense, since he should be even stronger due to having a portion of Gwyn's lord's soul.

Nito is weird. We know Pinwheel sapped him of some power, but I would bet it wasn't that much, seeing as how much of a pushover pinwheel is, and that the only thing it says he got from Nito was the rite of Kindling and some knowledge.

>>
>>336325183
>Father of the Abyss
>>
>>336324603

Manus has nothing to do with chaos, he is the furtive pygmy and has the largest piece of the dark soul (at least at the time). Kaathe told some humans to dig and wake him up, they did and that was when shit got fucked.

When the witch tried to recreate the first flame using the flame she had, it backfired and demons spew out instead and transformed her and her daughters, even if it made her chaos soceries stronger, she became a seemingly mindless grub, sealed away presumably by her sisters, most likely Quelana if only one did it.
Manus was most definitely not at full power by the nature of humanity floating around before him and that every human contains a piece of the dark soul.

Seathe was not an immortal everlasting dragon, which is why he betrayed his own, he didn't have everlasting scales which he fruitllessly researched his whole life.

Fairly sure Kalameet was just a strong ass dragon. which breaks a lot of the lore/canon since he isn't a drake/other subspecies

Seems to me that Kalameet is a dragonlet.

He isn't a drake/wyrm like a bunch of things depicted in-game, and he isn't nearly on the same level as the immortal dragons and other fucking gigantic ass dragons in the setting.

Perhaps he was just a cursed/deformed dragon thus explaining his relatively tiny size compared to true dragons, plus his weird eye stuff he could do. After all, Seathe was a fucked up dragon failure, so why can't Kalameet be one similarly?

The "curse" she's talking about seems to be the "fire-linking" curse that Lothric talked about, and it sounds like it operates like the nexus. You and the firekeeper are already caught by the time you reach Untended Graves and the handmaid will eventually be as well.

>>
>>336324338
No where is it said that Manus became weaker from that, and that'd be like assuming Gwyn was never at full power since the first thing he did was give away power to his Silver Knights and kids. Plus that was before his transformation and before he spread the abyss.

Plus Gwyn never fought the dragons alone, hell the only two people in the intro confirmed to kill the dragons are Nito (miasma of death) and Seath. The intro even says Gwyn with his silver knights. We know however that The Nameless King, Havel, and Ornstein were also dragon killers, along with Gough.

And the demons don't have to be comparable to dragons since Gwyn never made dragons. Faulty example. The Witch of Izalith created something so potent it spawned a new race and destroyed shit. Manus woke up and spread the abyss which consumes everything. All Gwyn made were kids.

Nito got drained by the Pinwheels when he was sleeping.
Nito and the Witch were full on shown to help though. Gwyn in no lore ever went solo against the dragons.

Your reasoning for Manus not being at his prime works exactly the same way for Gwyn. Hell you even say in your post that Gwyn made the silver knights. The only thing that was shown to effect Manus was after we kill his beast form since he was just a man with a "lord soul" before that

Guise, i has a theory. A shit theory, sure, but admitedly, most of DaS lore is throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

Is Yorskha actually Ocelotte?
She's a halfbred, which fits with Oceiros being a fucked up dragon but having a human bride.
She was renamed after being taken under Gwyndolyn's care.
And yeah, Ocelotte is a boy, but it's fucking Gwyndolyn, ladyboy extraordinaire, turning him into a girl would probably not be that hard, we even find the reversal ring in the chamber where he used to hang.
And of course they (or Dark Sun at least, i guess?) wouldn't want ol'man Oceiros to be able to harness Ocelotte's power, because he had gone mad and whatnot.

I think i had more stuff to support this, but i can't remember what right now.

I was using chaos not as a noun there. I meant Manus just waking up created chaos as in the abyss.

But she was sealed away in a more powerful form while we were locked in there with her. Her mobility is irrelevant when you're at the epicenter of her power.

That's easily explained by the abyss spread. Manus didn't start splitting his power once becoming a beast until after he died. Even miniscule fragments like what we saw in DaS2 took a long time to form and became supremely powerful unlike the ghosts we saw before him.

But he was an everlasting dragon. He was more powerful than them. Plus since he murdered a bunch of dragons he became immortal, got a piece of a lord soul, and researched spells for centuries. He became crazy, but his power didn't wane. If anything he was a lot more powerful than the war against the dragons.

Kalameet was said to be an everlasting dragon.

Sorcery imparted by the first of the Scholars, when Lothric and the Grand Archives were but young.

Fires a torrential volley of souls.

The first of the Scholars doubted the linking of the fire, and was alleged to be a private mentor to the Royal Prince.

The Japanese for Soul Stream is the same as for Soul Geyser, which is specifically Aldia's spell in Dark Souls 2.

There are differing opinions, from what I have mostly seen the abyss and the dark are not the same, the dark is the age absent of flame where the flames that give Lords power exist only as embers, so it's kind of a chaotic free for all I'd imagine until the flames return and spark another age of Lords or whatever that means, it's not super known what happens in the dark but we know people usually make it through it.

The abyss is closer to the chaos than the dark, the chaos came from the witch of izalith trying to re-ignite the first flame artificially, and thus was fused to make the bed of chaos and the demons.

The abyss comes from the people of oolacile being told by kaathe (I think) to poke the dead body of Manus for power and their sorceries of light (ironically) helped create the abyss which sprang out from manus' resting hole and corrupted everyone by forcing their humanity to run wild, transforming them into dark twisted versions of humans

Now I could be completely wrong so take it with a grain of salt this is just what I've compiled from other anons, but in conclusion,

The dark can't be stopped, it is inevitable and a natural part of the cycle

The abyss can be physically stalled and even possibly destoryed (killing those infected and the source, I.e. how the Abyss watchers and artorias long ago did it) and is artificially created from the mistakes of oolacile long ago

Pus of Man will probably be elaborated in the DLC.
Gertrude is the Queen's duaghter and founder of the Lothric religion. Also, maybe related to Rosaria, as they're both mute.

Actually, I just thought that maybe Rosaria could be the queen. She's a goddess of rebirth, which could be related to fertility. And they mention that Lothric's birth wasn't natural. Maybe the king experimented on her and made her womb into a gross slug factory.
Just a flimsy theory, but it's an interesting thought.

He was toying with us. He basically transformed into something able to transcend the whole cycle.

I don't think he's lord soul level like Nito/Gwyn/Witch/and Manus, but he basically laughed at us immediately after the fight when we could murder everything in DaS2. Mind you the only things of merit were the Giant Lord, Vendrick, and the Ancient Dragon (still had the scales even if it was a bunch of giant souls), but it still puts our character on a decent level. Ivory King might be up there too. Though even Vendrick got fucked over by Manus shards...

>Is the Old Demon King royalty, or is he just the highlander?

I'm not 100% sure how Demons reproduce: Maybe they can fuck or maybe they're strictly created by the chaos flame just sprouting out of it like trees.

Some people are corrupted and become demons, so there's that as well.

>I wouldn't think demons would have the level of intelligence to have a royal family.
The Demons have varying level of intelligence, they just lack context and don't possess the "best" moral compass; compared to the corrupted royalty of other dark souls kingdoms though Izalith is quite "quaint".

The ruins you explore in Dark souls 3 though are a grand burial chamber with statues of their people, so they must be intelligent ENOUGH.

>I think he's probably just the alpha demon. So the Demon Prince wouldn't be his son, it'd be the beta demon.

He was either the "beta" demon and 2nd most powerful demon or he was a demon adopted by the demon lord as an infant who he actually cared to tend to and care for.
Either way the title of prince implies the old king was most likely grooming him to be a new demon king.

Whatever you wish to believe it's evident that demons are at least capable of loyalty to their kind and caring for others.

Is Ornstein being an illusion based on "last knight to stand in the ruined cathedral"?
The cathedral wasn't even ruined in 1 so that doesn't make sense. Not to mention the Silver Knights were still around in 3, and the Giant Knights as well.

We either beat Ornstein first, and didn't kill him, or we beat both and didn't kill either, and Smough got fucked up later on. If Ornstein were an illusion in 1, then we wouldn't have gotten his soul. Which us killing him may not be canon, but his soul existing proves he was real, just like how in 2 we might not have killed him, but he was canon in that location during that time frame.

What really doesn't make sense however is the Dragonslayer armor fight unless he has multiple armors. Which I guess he'd have to. Or maybe the Smough smashing him is canon and that armor is used later on to be reformed while Ornstein is hurt but not dead then he goes on his journey.
>>
>>336328524
Gwyndolin was optional. Nito was a pile of bones after you killed him anyways and Aldrich ate plenty enough people to fashion a gravelord sword out of them. If everything the fuck else in Anor Londo sans the Silver Knights was an illusion, why couldn't have Ornstein been?
Artorias was, again, optional. Quelana was ALSO completely optional, but who knows if they're even considering undead to equal human, or if they mean the CU by the pupil she took.
>>
>>336328524
>gwyndolin wasn't killed by the chosen undead, was consumed by Aldrich instead

He's an optional boss anon. Just like a certain figure in a certain painted world that was mentioned in Aldritch's stuff.

>nito wasn't killed by the chosen undead, was consumed by Aldrich instead

Hasn't actually been confirmed at all. People get up in arms for it because of the weapon, but the dude is literally a pile of people and goo, and the entire arena is littered with skelingtons. Despite that, there's also the fact that the lord souls all carry over specific traits, and Aldritch seems quite capable of looking through traits/memories of those he absorbs.

>smough was the "last knight" to guard anor Londo, was not part of a duo with ornstein

The illusion actually explains this quite adequately. Ornstein and the other illusions all drop souls and their equipment. The item descriptions in 3 back it up further that he wasn't the real one. There's really not much to gripe about on this point.

>he historical conception of artorias is completely wrong, almost as if history played out differently

wut?

>quelana's tome says she never took another human pupil after salaman, despite the chosen undead being taught by her

Not only is this also optional, but the Witch's ring confirms that her life story has basically been passed down as parables. The details of her life would be considered shady at best to most people by now.
>>
>>336328524
>Gwyndolin
Side boss, not canon to kill
>Nito
Where did it ever say Nito was consumed by Aldrich? This is headcanon
>Smough
Smough crushs Ornstien if you kill Ornsten first (which seems to be Canon) and he just disappears. Also Gwyndolin created so many illusions in Anor Londo
>Artorias
Artorias own soul says we only know half the story, and Elizabeth and Alvina even say his story was a lie, but even so how was his conception completley wrong?
>Quelana

Side quests are not canon. Anything you dont have to do never happened in DS3.
>>
>>336328819
Because Ornstein had a soul. Gwyndolin couldn't create souls.

And Artorias wasn't optional at all. The chosen undead killed Manus in canon, which means he killed Artorias too.

Nameless king is Ornstein. His weapons and armors say that there was a dragon slaying knight that threw away his duty to ally with what he used to hunt. Nameless king weapons' say that it's a right to take the dragon's soul when slain, as was the ritual of a time long lost. Both Ornstein and Nameless king use lightning halberds.

Then we also find Ornstein's discarded weapons and armor in the Nameless king section with no body to be found.

gwynevere is rosaria

leonhardt slaughters her to free her from the distorted form of her body, then guards her soul in gwynevere's chamber while referring to her as his goddess.
>>
>>336329220
Nameless King is gwyns firstborn.

Leo ring says Ornstien trained under Gwyns firstborn.

Gwysn firstborn was a dragonslayer who switched sides.

Nameless King uses a Swordspear while Ornstien uses a crossspear

The closest thing Bloodborne has is Insight. It has a few effects in the world, boosts item discovery, and is required for multiplayer. You get more of it and don't lose it on death, but it serves mostly the same gameplay function, however understated.

also he doesn´t even die at the end of 2. He really was toying with you he could possibly be immortal god

Ornstiens armor even literally says he went to find the Nameless King you fucktard

>Why are there thrones for the Lords of Cinder in Firelink
There's a throne for each person who's been a 'recent' lord of cinder or who is expected to become one/whatever.
Basically in order to link the fire you need a few people who possess magnificent souls and then 1 person to act as a host and link the fire itself.

>Did they expect this to happen?
Yes.
When the fire fades the bell toles and the lords of cinder get out from whereaver they are (dead or alive) and are SUPPOSED to come to the Cinder Thrones so they don't have to be hunted down like in ye olde times.
They don't do this though and so you have to hunt them down like ye olde times.

>Why only five lords of cinder? We know that there are at least Gwyn and the Chosen Undead left over. Why weren't they awoken as well?
The Five lords of cinder don't represent everyone who's linked the fire during all of history; they represent everyone who's linked it -recently- OR, OR, who has the POTENTIAL to link it depending on which theory you buy into.

Like, okay, okay, let me translate this into Dark souls 1:
Every Owner of a LORD SOUL could be considered a LORD OF CINDER: Nito, Seath, Gwyn, Izalith- They'd all be lords of Cinder.

Then where is Ornstein if the first was an illusion and the second was a fanboy? What about the armor that specifically mentions it was discarded?

> If Ornstein were an illusion in 1, then we wouldn't have gotten his soul.

On the contrary, all of the illusions in Anor Londo drop souls and equipment.

They both hunt dragons because that's what the gods and their ilk did. They both have lightning thrusting weapons because Dragons are weak to thrust and weak to lightning.

>teleport to some new area
>mostly unrelated to anything
>some vague exposition here and there, but mostly just more questions
>maybe they mildly reveal a single thing from the main game people were confused on

just like every single other dark souls dlc

you think people would get after 3 games that there will never ever be answers
>>
>>336329516
>They don't do this though and so you have to hunt them down like ye olde times

I didn't do that shit in DaS1

In fact, in DaS1, the precedent is just that I need to get jacked up on souls; No idea what this lords of cinder thing is about
>>

Gwyn had sex with priscilla and made Gwyndolin and Yorshka
>>
>>336329471
That also makes him the smartest character in the series too besides figuring out the cycles. He does all these experiments to make himself uber powerful and immortal without the lord souls, and without losing his mind. He just looks like shit but it's not detrimental to himself.

I hope they make dlc with him and make him an npc at least. He's now too big of a character to just throw away.

What armor says it was discarded? Ornstens set just says he went to find the Nameless King

Ornstien is doing literally that in the first, Finding the Nameless King.
>>
>>336329668
In Dark Souls 1 the fire wasn't as weak and didn't require several powerful souls to link it. Gwyn was either awoken as a lord of cinder by the bell, or summoned as the first rendition of the soul of cinder to defend the fire/test the challenger, and when you beat him your soul alone was powerful enough to link it.

In Dark Souls 3 it's weaker. It seems to get weaker every time it's linked, so it needs 5 lords who have been proven able to link the fire before to do it again.
>>
>Archdragon Peak

I wish they'd make a Souls game that always had this kind of atmosphere. The grimmdark shit really starts eating away at you after a while. That level felt like a different game

That's just a reference to Yuria the Witch from Demon's Souls.
There's tons of references, and you even get references of references, and references split up into several different references.
Both Yuria of Londor and Karla the Witch are references to Yuria the Witch. Karla's garb is heavily based on Yuria's witch garb.
Also, Yuria is a reference to Annalise with her mask, whose mask is a reference to Griffith from Berserk.

Dark Souls is just dozens of references stitched together to form a game.

Okay, so who was the Soul of Cinder and why was he there?

I get that it's supposed to be an amalgamation of people that have linked the flame, but isn't that redundant with the LoC's?
>>
>>336329634
Thank you my friend you made me happy.

so thats Quelana's body next to her sister?
if so then it looks like even when we tried to help it amounted to nothing.
>>
>>336329571
Not Gwynevere. And we also don't get to make specific items relating to characters with those souls like Ornstein.

Without "lol it was an illusion" it's easily explained that Smough didn't kill Ornstein and he got away before Smough died.

Or, neither died and Smough died sometime later defending against Aldrich or some shit. Who knows?

Either way, one piece of text is too vague to retcon a very important fight away as simply being an illusion.
>>
>>336307582
The darkwraiths are sick of their jump ->grab ->grab ->jump moveset
>>
>>336329963
If things go the way the flame wants, you wouldn't be hunting down and killing the lords of cinder and forcing them to comply, so fighting the soul of cinder wouldn't really be redundant at that point. If you want to link the fire, I guess it's supposed to be a test. But you might also be there to snuff it out or steal it, in which case it would be there to defend the fire.
>>
>>336330069
How is it easily explained Smough didnt kill Ornstien when we literally see him Kill Ornstien and use his soul to power up

You see it agaim with Nameless king and the Storm King because that was the custom during the age of gods.
