PS VITA looks really nice but I don't want to spend money on the memory card or any games.
I just don't know if there is a point. They can't really deliver significantly better hardware than phones, they can maybe offer a better library if they can get ports of all the stuff on Android/iOS/Steam [though Valve is supposedly coming out with their own portable].
The only real advantage is better controls and [for now] more typical console-type franchises. Judging by the Vita/3DS, I don't know if the market that values superior controls and more traditional franchises outnumbers the market that doesn't feel like carrying two devices.

I fucked it up overclocking it but playing KOF2002 on break, any ps1 and below game in bed, and playing some decent Android games that supported the controls was mind blowing. Not necessarily. We saw Sony willing to move on from those ideas in the PlayStation TV while relying on the Vita platform. I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if Sony were to move forward with a backwards compatible successor or 1.5 edition of the Vita without those features (but, at the same time I don't imagine the costs of those gimmicks would be too much for them to avoid it and I also believe that Sony still thinks those design decisions were good even though many of us would disagree)

People are buying fewer phones and the phones they have have a built in exparation date both with purposely faulty hardware and software updates that eat up storage space and slows it's performance.
