That's wrong though. No one in IX, Vivi and Steiner included, get anywhere near enough characterization or development to be considered the best in their series. Vivi has an interesting concept, but its not explored anywhere near enough through his own perspective (the entire acceptance of mortality thing is done much better in the Shadow Hearts series). Steiner stops being a character as soon as disc 3 hits and just kind of blends into the background. IX is a mess of dropped character arcs and half assed progression.
Squall is the best written character in the series by a huge margin.
