It's always been ridiculously easy to hack PC DaS. FROM's ban system seems clever at first but then you realize it can be exploited to get others banned, as is being seen recently.
Literally all you need to do is download cheat engine and know a bit about hex values. Even these "epic hackers" probably have very little hacking experience outside of using hex editors.

Unless if you update your backup save(s) literally every single time you finish playing the game, you're going to lose progress when it happens. And that's only referring to the whole softban hacking. There's also infinite health, one hit kills, etc, that are ruining PvP right now. PS4/Xbone may be a good deal worse in performance but they're dealing with nowhere near this amount of utter bullshit.

I'm not sure how that lowers the legitimacy of the platform. Especially considering Dark Souls are primarily singleplayer games with multiplayer elements. GTA5 also did fairly well on the platform, hackers aside, and it fits under the same category.

There's no such thing as "hackers aside". The online is a big incentive to buy the game and you will literally not find a single match on PC without someone exploding the entire map and/or showering money on people. And the multiplayer of the souls games is embedded into the singleplayer and it's a HUGE part of the experience altogether, specially since it's what keeps people playing these games over and over and over again. You're trying to downplay an integral part of the experience.

Regardless, I just don't see how you're finding this to mean something isn't a viable platform for a game. The game is playable and can be enjoyed as it was meant to be enjoyed. Its just that it can also be abused and disrupted. This does not make something a non-viable platform; it can turn someone off of playing a game on a particular platform, and that is perfectly fair. After all, the ease of hacking could make gameplay potentially annoying for a player. So if they desire to play it on a different platform, that is fine. But then again, that's always been fine. Consumers are free to pick what they think is the best option for them. That's normal consumerism, right? I'm just saying that doesn't make this a non-viable platform to play a game. It has problems, and they need to be resolved.

Been playing for 2-3 hours, got my ass handed by knights and gangbang dogs but beat vordt and found the thief at least.
There is still a door and and a soul item on a 2-3 meter high ledge I can't access.

As a personal rule, PC is for single player games and for online games you buy a console. If I could only afford either a pc OR a ps4, I'd get the ps4 without bating an eye though. Having played dark souls 1 on ps3 and then on PC it was definitely a step back for me. The ps3 version felt much more lively as I'd get invaded everywhere, whereas on PC online didn't even work properly for the most part due to GFWL and I've ran into a lot of hackers. Dark Souls 2 was mostly fine but Dark Souls 3 is getting a little bit shitty, specially since it's a garbage port.
The last time I tried playing another online game on pc was gta and I noped the fucked out of that thing without looking back. Bought it on PS4 and had a blast.

This pattern happens all too often:
>1. Tech Savvy individual finds an exploit or problem and privately messages developers about the issue
>2. Developers do nothing for 6-8 months
>3. Still not fixed, smaller groups start making use of the problem for more nefarious purposes, but still don't cause enough trouble for the developers to care
>4. Tech savvy individual releases a detailed guide of the problem and how to fix it to the public, thousands start using the exploit, he mentions that he messaged the developers multiple times with a repeatable way to cause the problem and even offered solutions
>5. Issue is fixed in 3 days
These people understand that just skipping to step 4 is both more fun and fixes the issue sooner. I've played games online for almost 25 years, and seen this exact cycle hundreds of times. If you want game developers to fix their game, you have to force their hand.
Right now even if they fix the deleveling/extra souls exploit, there are still AT LEAST TWO other ways to force people to get softbanned (under their current detection system) that aren't even popular yet. I have no doubt that even if they fix the current thing that the guy on youtube is doing, people will still start to do it the other way. The only way to fix it is to make it so rampant that it will make the developer look bad if they don't fix the issue.
