Personally: Shantae > Pirate's Curse > Risky's Revenge, though Pirate's Curse is a much better game for someone to simply get into, and the first Shantae game often loses points for a couple of flaws that hurt it for some. Risky's Revenge is basically the product of rushing an incomplete game into completion. It was planned to be much bigger taking advantage of chapters and such, but it ended up being what it is now.

Can't say anything on why you'd want to work there, I suppose it might have a good work atmosphere, but the appeal of Shantae is probably her design being both cute and fun, as well as all the characters and how they make the game enjoyable to play through even without the gameplay.
The best game to start would probably be the first one, since each game, for the most part, builds upon the last, and it's the one that started it all, or Pirate's Curse, since the gameplay it has differentiates from the rest, and the game does well not to alienate people who haven't played the rest.

I like the dancing, minigames, items, fighter's gear, dungeons, Risky Boots and the world map the most in the original. It feels vast. There were a lot of elements to explore. It has problems, sure, but they never were that big a deal for me.
PC is fast, fun, streamlined, charming and the easiest to get into. I miss the dancing and transformations. I guess that's what it comes down to.
I like RR and it was my first, but its shortness and frequent fetch quest backtrack padding hurt it for me, since the world was small. It's a bit bland storywise too. Still charming.
(The GBA one gets high because it looked beautiful, had more transformations, Risky's scheme was just cool and the the Autumn dungeon, which would've been my favorite in the franchise, was wonderful. And well the mind always thinks the grass is greener on the other side.)

Yeah, but a game series' fundamental nature isn't necessarily tied to its perspective. Metroid Prime and the 3d Zeldas show that well. Actually, considering that I've always thought of the original Shantae as being similar to a Zelda game, it could work well with a similar transition to 3d.

Anyway, I absolutely love Shantae. Playing it was one of my earliest gaming memories at school. A friend let me play it on his GBC because I really wanted to try it out. I could never learn how to transform though, so I would end up stuck after I freed the genie. Years later, I got the game on an emulator, and I FINALLY figured out how to transform and it was so freaking awesome to experience that for the first time. Then the rest of the game was mine for the taking..
Though the challenges this game brings aren't to be taken lightly. It's a lot of fun to play through and I'm so glad I decided to pick it up again after so long

I first played it a week ago, when it went up on Humble. I loved it so much I stopped to get Risky's Revenge, beat it, and now am about to beat Pirate's Curse. And I'm going to play it again when I am done.
I had no idea these games were so much fun.
