IT FUCKING FLOPPED

>>
>>336181350
Big surprise. Didn't the game at least sell well though?
>>
>>336181468

It broke launch sales records for the series.
>>
>>336181350
Game was great. Movie should've been on Netflix. It was definitely not going to succeed the way it's written (you are basically guaranteed not to get much out of the film if you didn't play the game)
>>
>>336181350
No Sly movie then?
>>
>>336181964
Hopefully. I don't want to see them ruin Sly.
>>
>>336181964
Hasn't been in production for years? They've probably poured too much money in to cancel now, unfortunately.
>>
>>336182471
http://www.ign.com/videos/2016/03/28/whats-up-with-the-sly-cooper-movie-kevin-munroe-interview

No, the teaser trailer was just a proof of concept. It hasn't actually started production.
>>
>>336182471

It hasn't begun production yet. Sony was probably waiting to see how Ratchet did before greenlighting it.
>>
>>336182640
>>336182669

Oh thank god.

Where it sits comparatively
>>
>Thought it was pretty decent
>Had plenty of nods to the games if you're a fan
>Can't say I like Ratchet's new personality of being a five-year-old who is overly obsessed with being a hero
>Pacing was rushed as all fuck
>There was no reason to change Drek's actor
>The Blarg being a bunch of rowdy texters was pretty fucking funny though

And the game is a fucking 11/10, I'd be willing to argue it's right up there with CiT and UYA as my favorite.
>>
>>336182826
>>336182965
That's because you played the games.
It's not good as an intro for people that didn't.
>>
>>336181350
Is it good? I've been meaning to see it and I'm a R&C fan, but I'm not sure if it's worth a ticket
>>
I've pretty much been waiting to see it, unfortunately.
>>
>Lowry running away from the pressure

Nice "star" you got there
>>
>>336183120
It's not a bad movie, just another mediocre kiddie flick, but if you like the series you should like it. It's not good either though.
>>
I saw it, I thought it was alright. But that's because I played the games.
>>

My least favorite part of the whole Rachet and Clank universe is Captain Quark showing up and spewing toilet humor to appeal to all the 5 year olds.

I don't know the first thing about this movie, but I'm just going to assume that Quark just runs around burping and farting.

Saw it with a few friends. Two of them had never played R&C and still had a blast with the movie. Sure, it's not perfect and the pacing isn't great, but I felt it was as good as an animated kids movie based on a game could be. The nod to both Jak&Daxter and Sly was well received in our theater too.

It's a solid 7/10. Not great. Not terrible. Worth the price of admission and will likely buy when home release hits.

Ace Attorney is still the best video game movie. R&C is a close second.

In this particular case yes. The problem is that they will never recognize WHY it actually bombed, as in, the elements about it that people hated that didn't belong in it, the ways they fucked over the source material, etc. They won't learn this or apply it to anything else. They'll just assume that nobody wanted a Ratchet movie.

Stupid idea for a movie. Sony has been pushing R&C as Pixar shit since the PS3. Only the PS2 games have the right tone: funny but not stupid or inane.

Typically an animated movie takes about $50-$150 million to make, but in this case it's really up in the air since it's Sony and the animation was outsourced to some rando company.

A good guess would be 20m, and they'll need a bit more than 20m just to break even. 4m for fucking opening weekend is terrible. Top put it in perspective, Zootopia, a movie that has been out for over 2 months pulled in more than the R&C movie. Now THAT is sad.
>>
>>336185607
Everybody hates niggers, that doesn't mean it's right or okay.
>>

>>336185861
You have to spend money to make money.
>>
>>336185861
>$150 million
Where the fuck does this money go? You'd think a majority of the assists would already have been created by now to use.
>>
>>336185861
Not counting is well known this movie has an incredibly small budget.

so I guess it doesn't have to try THAT hard to get back the losses.

That actually happened with Rainmaker's last venture to theatrical movies before this, Escape from Planet earth.
>>
The movie was okay. I wasn't really impressed with anything, but I don't think it was bad. That being said, I don't think they gave Ratchet and Clank enough screen time as a pair.

Ratchet was a douchebag for most of the movie. That, and they played him off as almost a complete idiot. I know it's a reboot, but damn pay some respect to the source material.
>>
>>336185861
>a movie that has been out for 2 months has made more than a movie that has been out for 3 days
HOLY SHIT I NEVER WOULDVE GUESSED
>>
Actually had a fun idea about how they could reboot Going Commando.

>Villains are Zurgo and Quasar, Qwark's brother
>Zurgo is the one imitating Fizwidget, while Quasar imitates his brother in order to further defame the fallen hero
>Their plan was to frame Qwark as the mastermind of the malfunctioning Proto-pet outbreak similar to the original GC, with Quasar readying to break into the scene as a new hero who was better than his brother
>Game ends with Qwark's name ruined, prompting him to leave for Florana

Re-up your arsenal could then play out relatively the same, albeit with the changes seen from later games. Thus, no Dr. Nefarious for the tenth time right away.
>>
>>336185778

>Sony will keep milking R+C until the franchise is as bad as sonic

Impossible. Sonic's problem is that it keeps reinventing the wheel. Ratchet's eventual problem is that the formula hasn't been innovated CiT, but that's because all the games following it were budget titles.
>>
>>336186147
>Ratchet was a douchebag for most of the movie. That, and they played him off as almost a complete idiot. I know it's a reboot, but damn pay some respect to the source material.

>>
>>336186236
Uh, no. Ratchet is from a backwater planet, but he's not an idiot. Ever since the first game he's been a brilliant strategist. That, and he didn't treat Clank as a second class citizen like he did in the movie. If anything, it's the other way around.

I hope they don't reboot the rest of the games. R&C 1 was the only one that needed it.

Every other mainline Ratchet game aged perfectly fine. I don't know why people would even want to ask for reboots of the other PS2 games because their strong points would be eyecandy and that would literally be it. It'd be worse in every other regard.

>Didn't find the movie as bad as critical response seems to claim.
>Most R&C are now gonna focus on this as much as locked 30 FPS

I don't agree it was very bland and it probably would have gained better success as a Netflix-exclusive movie. But I don't wanna dwell on sadness so I'm gonna point out the stuff I ACTUALLY liked among all those misfires:

>While the friendship was barely developed, Ratchet and Clank's delivery was 10/10. You can tell their VAs have the characters down pat and stood up against all those bland celebrity voice overs.

>Design wise it looked like the games. which with these movies that's a rarity.

>Victor Von Iron's Funeral scene.

>That Blarg with no indoor voice

>"WILHELM!"

>Some of the description subtitles made me light chuckle "Oh, like you didn't see this coming."

>Drek and Nefarious' fate being quite harsh in constrast with the way more kiddy tone of this adaptation
>>
>>336186892
I do agree*

My bad.
>>
>>336186892

it's almost as if movies aren't made for the people paid to be critics
>>
>>336186890

Like I said RUYA would be exactly the same beyond changing Qwark's redemption a little. GC would still have to see some change since Qwark isn't vengeful after the story. I mean yea, they don't have to remake the game, but at least it's a fun idea of HOW they could do it without going retarded and making Qwark be a cunt for no reason.
>>
>>336186853
Obviously this movie wouldn't even touch the overall gross of Zootopia, but the fucking NINTH WEEKEND of Zootopia did better than OPENING weekend of R&C.

That's fucking terrible.
>>
it's a vidya movie, of course it was gonna bomb financially and be shit to boot.
>>
>>336181350
well of course it did, it should have just been included with the game, it doesnt look like it was ever meant to be in theaters
>>
>>336187271
Being a Disney movie kind of skews the numbers a bit though.
>>
>>336186892
Vicktor's funeral was hilarious, and also kinda dark when all the Blarg got sucked out the airlock.
>>
>>336187117
The one thing I liked about the remake was how that since it's told by Qwark's perspective, it made it a bit more of a fresh experience rather than just playing the exact same game with the exact same story.

I don't want to imagine GC or UYA in 30FPS with a handful of levels missing, from the original, mediocre OST, etc
>>
>>336187293
the prince of persia movie was pretty good I though
>>
Part of the problem is the lackluster marketing. Oh sure, they promoted it quite a bit on PSN, a place only GAMERS would even fucking know about. Not to mention they didn't show any trailers for at least a year before it was due out, and at one point had it set for 2015 before quietly shifting it to this year with no warning.

As for the movie, though I haven't seen it, I don't doubt the claims that while it isn't terrible, it's just "a movie of a game" rather than a brilliant adaptation that could have attracted millions of fans for more films and a flood of new game sales.

Still, I do kind of hope it doesn't kill off game movies. This showed promised by looking and feeling like the source material, something is undeniably rare with many other entries.

>>
>>336187480
Slightly, but nothing this bad.

To put into perspective, a equally financially successful Disney (Pixar) movie Inside Out couldn't hit a million on each day, while Zootopia has pulled over a million for Fri/Sun and over 2m on Sat.

>>
>>336185529
I'm sure it entirely has to do with the movie being animated while those other movies weren't. Uwe Boll or not it isn't hard to get idiots into a theater when promised some generic horror shit, as opposed to an animated kids film with pretty much zero marketing.
>>
>>336188323
I don't remember it being particularly shaky.

A lot of people complained about the ending since it used time travel to make it so 90% of the film never happened, but I really liked that because I was so fucking mad about PoP 2008's ending and the movie ending was basically the same idea except actually done well.

It's not a dumb way of thinking. Sly is being made by the same shitty animation studio and if R&C couldn't sell on name alone, with a tie-in video game to go with it, then the project is as good as dead.

That being said only Sony's relationship with the animation company is fucked, we're not going to see any movies coming from them any time soon but this won't affect their decisions to make other video game movies. Hell, Sony confirmed an Uncharted movie and a TLoU movie as well.

That being said, they're supposedly both in development hell so they might go in the shitter anyway for an entirely different reason.

Can someone tell me about backwards compatibility or releases on the ps4

Do they have all the R&C games?
All the jak and daxter games?
All the sly cooper games?
>>
>>336188787
The PS4 is not backwards compatible, you can only play the remake on it
>>
>>336188579

You can't play PS3 discs on PS4, but you can play PS3 games with the "PSNow" service. Never tried it, but you should be able to play all the R&C games that wound up on PS3.

>fucking up the source material is why this movie bombed

Absolutely no one outside of gamers are aware of this franchise, and even then most gamers are only generally aware of it. The main reason this movie bombed is that its an animated action movie based on an IP with practically zero mainstream recognition.
>>
>>336188864
Was there much of a complaint from fans about the remake?
>>
>>336188787
I believe the collections are playable through PlayStation Now, though I don't know how good that is

>>336188710
>Hell, Sony confirmed an Uncharted movie and a TLoU movie as well.
>That being said, they're supposedly both in development hell so they might go in the shitter anyway for an entirely different reason.

They also have a bigger chance at success than R&C because they can at least can market themselves as generic action flicks for the basic popcorn movie goer which you can't really do with an animated property like Ratchet or Sly.
>>
>>336188641

Kind of weird since Sands of the time the game literally ends with all the events unfucked by time travel.

And the 08 game was an interesting way to do an ending. Should have had the Prince at least say "We can't just keep sealing the bastard" instead of just looking like he wanted to get his dick wet.
>>
movie was made , beside for more exposure, to cash in more money alongside the game

Fight Club and Fear and Loathing were not completely panned by critics, and Hook was genuinely a pretty crappy film (seriously, watch it now, its slow as shit and has a ton of really bizarre elements and plot points).

Get a PS3. It's at its cheapest now and it worth every buck, unlike buying 360 now, for example.
>>

Uncharted and The Last of Us already feel like movies. That's not an insult as I think they're pretty good but why would you want a movie when you can just play the game or watch the cut scenes on YouTube.

Pretty sure the game was put into development shortly after the film. So if anything, the game was being made to expose the movie. Problem is, the film barely got any promotion to hype up viewers.

>The game was in concurrent development with the film and shared the same character models, environments, animation and some writing. For example, Insomniac would send Rainmaker a 3D character model or environment, and Rainmaker would send Insomniac its slightly altered version for use in the game, so there would be parity between the pieces. Most of the assets in the film and video game had been touched between the two parties, and in some cases Insomniac would try to match a film scene as closely as possible in-game. The film and game also used the same color-correction tools.

most articles point to the game being first

>>
>>336189213

Expanding the franchise. Books and movies can help deepen a franchise in many ways. Adding adventures that might not work in one medium, or bridging the gap between two different media.

Problem is, the first movies almost always have to be retellings of the first games, and with that comes the task of squeezing a story told over roughly 2 hours (give or take with some games, often more depending) into something usually less than that.

One of the biggest issues with Reboot and Clunk is how it just speeds through a lot of events with no buildup or world building, and not Drek's kind mind you.
>>
>>336188957
True, it's the same way Guardians of the Galaxy- niche shit even avid comic book fans barely knew- was a big success. They advertised to guys that like space adventures (similar to Star Wars) rather than just the people who read the comics.

The problem with R&C's marketing was that it boiled down to "HEY GUYS IT'S A MOVIE BASED ON A VIDEO GAME HOW ABOUT THAT HUH", the average movie-goer doesn't know or care about R&C games so it bombed.

Sounds more like the game came shortly after. It was probably done as a marketing scheme

>Let's make a movie, but also a game based on the movie

Only reason this didn't backfire like so many tie-ins is because they got the original dev to not only help with the film (which probably saved it from being a total disaster) and handle the remake, sparing the latter from being shovelware by some iPhone developer.

go read Roger Ebert's review of Fight Club, he makes a fair point that the film never lives up to the potential of its early scenes which examine the impersonal and depressing nature of modern life.

I'm reading a few reviews of Fear and Loathing and the main criticism seems to be that its visually interesting but the script is sorely lacking the book's infectious energy. Which honestly I completely agree with, the book is leagues better than the movie. Same about Fight Club as well now that I think about it.

really? The general consensus I've seen even among DC fans was that it was disappointing.

Personally though I really disliked it but for different reasons than I commonly hear. A lot of DC fans were upset that Superman killed Zod because that's not muh superman (nevermind that he killed mr mixy at the end of whatever happened to the man of tomorrow) but that didn't really bother me. What bothered me most was the pacing of the film and the villain's motivations making no fucking sense whatsoever. I remember just sitting there an hour into the movie and thinking to myself holy shit when is superman gonna beat up some bad guys already. They dragged the origin out WAY too long.

And then Zod is trying to reverse terraform Earth so he can make a new Krypton but doesn't care that this planet already has a race of sentient life that would be completely wiped out in the process? He also apparently doesn't want super powers because they take a few years to learn how to use? If he has the codex and a FTL spaceship he could go and do that literally anywhere, hell he could just go to mars and do it without having to wipe out billions of people.

I mean I get that he was genetically designed to be a war leader so he doesn't understand diplomacy very well but the idea that someone from such an incredibly advanced race would find a race of sentient life that lives in a way his own once did and his initial reaction is to wipe them out because of their disgusting barbarity rather than conquering and civilizing them (which he could easily do) is just dumb. Its made worse by the fact that its done without any explanation whatsoever.

You are misunderstanding WHY this movie failed.

Sly movie will not have the same writers or the same adherence to a video game counterpart.

This whole R&C reboot was based on making a movie and a game side by side. That's how it was planned.

Even if they did more "PlayStation Originals", which they will, they'd be a case by case basis like any other film. In this case, the film just needed way, way better writers. The R&C script is completely humorless and bland for 2/3rds of the film.

It was garbage. No characters with anything but a pixel-thin personality, a meandering storyline, lots of action and mayhem that is completely uninvolving. If the video game movie genre is ever to succeed (there has yet to be a successful adaptation) it has to do more than copy the video game. It has to approach it as a movie, and that requires something more fully realized in the way of character and plotting.

It's not hard to please a diehard fan but it is something else to make a viewer feel like he didn't just sit in front of his TV or laptop for 2 hours. Instantly forgettable.

The best variations on the genre are still films that took the subculture and crafted an original story or documentary. Wreck-It Ralph, Last Starfighter, King of Kong, Tron (barely).

The genre is still batting zero as cinema, even if the gamers are pleased.
>>
>>336196235
I'm not convinced they'd have better writers for Sly, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. I think Sly would probably work better as a movie though, the characters and story already feel like a cartoon or comic.

Guess what anon this remake doesn't even follow the dame movie so you're wrong on that.
Not to mention all the worlds you visit in this remake are from the first game ergo they cut content.

Nice shilling anon you really convinced me Ratchet and Clank on the ps4 is worth buying and is game of the year
>>
>>336197631

Only thing I recall was the game kind of hiccupping when I did the brain collection with a 20x multiplier. Audio even buzzed a bit. Beyond that, it's been as smooth as the other games. Even then, not like those didn't have dips themselves.
>>
>>336197426
Went and saw it with my friends, and some of the references made me chuckle, but I'm the only one among them that played the games so...it was mostly silent. I feel judged now for liking the games.

>>

Except it does follow the movie, it just purposefully tells certain events differently because that's how they wrote it.

And I only didn't know drops because there weren't any in my play throughs of the game. So that means the only retard is you if you think everyone has to be experiencing them and being inconvenienced.

It's so cute how you're only defense is to call others shills when they don't agree with you. What, first day on /v/? Wanting to get your shitposting badge?

>>
>>336197931
A lot of people were earnestly trying, there were good references and one or two decent original jokes. Shame the plot was so generic and the new characters were completely unlikable. And for every 1 decent joke there were 5 bad ones.
>>
>>336197965
>follows the movie
>tells things differently
>it follows the movie

60 to 30 is a noticable drop and if you're too retarded to not tell the difference then the only retard is you.

>only diffence is calling shill
That's what you are faggorino. You are trying to state a remake with worse framerate and less content is just fine which it isn't
>>
>>336198175
yeah i know, i enjoyed it decently.
the blargs being outrageous texters was funny.

the whole scene with captain quark and the hashtags gave me cancer.
>>
>>336198187

It literally has the same major events. Just because some scenes in the movie are longer, and a few not happening within the game doesn't mean it's not the same story.

Framerate drop is only noticeable when it happens, and the game doesn't drop all that much, barely even. The framerate is just fine and runs as smoothly as the other games.

No, I'm someone with a differing opinion, bucko. The fact that you can't come up with any other argument than me being on someone's payroll just proves how much of mouth breathing little brat you are who probably hasn't even played the game and is just spouting the same exaggerations because you don't like it and want to voice it on a fucking anonymous image board.

I maintain that sticking closer to the plot of the original game, where Ratchet is a grumpy asshole and reluctant hero at first and Nefarious isn't involved at all, would have made for a more interesting movie. It would have focused on the relationship between Ratchet and Clank more than making it an instant-friendship sugar overdose. It's belittling to children to think that they can't handle a slight bit of depth to their stories and characters.

Honestly fucking negligable. Been replaying all the games lately and the framerate hasn't impacted the games at all.

I seriously think caring about framerate has become a memetic response. Where some people pointed out how some styles of games need high framerates, and then every Tom, Dick and Harry Handjob on /v/ started screaming about needing 120fps.
>>cut out 1/3 of all the worlds
Game was priced accordingly
>>npcs talking in the back round way more than the original
Not as bad as people say, the vendors were the only ones who refused to shut the fuck up.

You could have at least talked about how they butchered Drek AND Nefarious, by removing the menace from Drek and removing Lawrence's banter with Nefarious, or the fact that most of the weapons were just rehashes from Future with great original weapons like the Visi-bomb and the Tesla Claw being left out, and with the Combuster and Warmonger replacing old weapons because they were so lazy when it came to modelling the weapons that they re-used the RYNO IV skin on a weapon that functioned like the RYNO VII and played the song from the RYNO V.

But you didn't mention those things, because you don't give a shit about the game and probably the series because your big three bullet points were shit that has been thrown around and shot down in other threads, so you probably just saw those and thought "OH BOY, NOW WHEN I JUMP INTO A THREAD AND SAY A GAME IS SHIT, I CAN REPEAT THESE!"

Most of the movie didn't have Ratchet and Clank in the same frame.

Drek had way too much screen time and Stallone's character basically took over what Qwark should have been doing. Not to mention the fact that a good chunk of the movie was dedicated to Qwark's betrayal, which felt stupid as fuck when you try to spin it in a sympathetic light instead of Qwark just being a sell out.

Ratchet's character arc in this film is basically done within the first 30 minutes of the film. He wanted to become a hero and a galactic ranger, and he accomplishes that quickly, leaving the rest of the movie serving no purpose for having Ratchet to do shit. So it turns into a Qwark movie. And don't get me started on how Clank barely appears in the film.

It sounds like I'm whining about Captain Qwark, but I like him in the film. Jim Ward nailed every scene despite the material being awful. This movie was just completely unfocused with a lack of a real plot, any real character development or decent jokes. Every other scene was some joke about social networks, texting, or some slapstick humor that doesn't belong and goes on way too long. It's like a series of skits they were trying to make for youtube, but they forgot that the movie they were making was based off something and that they paid Paul, Rosario, Stallone and the rest of the cast way too much money to only use them in bit parts.

Sony Pictures never had any faith or interest in this movie. They basically said "yeah whatever" and left it to struggle in the dark without any supervision during production or marketing, and surprise surprise, it will probably be lucky to make back even half of whatever miniscule budget it might have had.

It's clear that the studio was in over their heads and they didn't have an experienced showrunner for a theatrical project. The movie clearly wanted to be appealing to kids while also winning over the adult fans, and ultimately they didn't know how and ended up just being a kiddy movie with lots of references to the franchise that only older fans will understand.

There's not really any reason why this movie should be bad. It comes down to the fact that they had a bad script and there was no adult in the room to say "hey guys, maybe we should do this over." You don't need to have incredible animation if you have a great script, but this movie had neither.
>>
>>336204194
the funny thing is that R&C has always had stupid puns like that, but typically those puns are just sprinkled over a game chock-full of clever quips and great bantz

the movie doesn't have any of that though until very very late in the movie, and in both the movie/game it's just super tame by R&C standards.

Most video games don't have amazing stories. The story isn't the point. The point is playing them. The point is the interactive bit, not the narrative bit.
>>
>>336207924
>Sony Pictures had no involvement
Well yeah, there's where the problems all started. Sony wanted nothing to do with a movie based on one of their most popular in-house IPs and sold it off to another studio who made it on a shoestring budget and hardly marketed it.

And to add insult to injury, this movie made significantly LESS money in its opening weekend than the studio's only other theatrical release, Escape from Planet Earth. That movie opened with $15 million and went on to make a "whopping" $57 million total, while Ratchet and Clank opened with $5 million and will probably be gone from theaters in a week.

This whole thing was a cock up and I don't know if Sony is even aware of it because they had so little involvement. They see the game getting glowing reviews and selling like wildfire, and probably forgot that there was also a movie coming out, let alone know that it was panned by critics and ignored by audiences. The budget it was made on must have been downright negligible if no-one seems to care that it's flopping so badly.
>>
>>336208836
Good marketing can save a bad movie, but no marketing kills both good and bad movies alike. Movies don't sell themselves, and if your movie is already weak then to not market it is basically to disown it.
>>
>>336181350

Even though the movie was probably only made for a few million dollars and was buried within the cost of making the game, I can't imagine why Sony thought that this was a good plan. Ratchet and Clank, let alone Sony's other classic IPs, could have been an entire movie franchise if they had done it the right way. Basically all they used this movie for was to have an excuse to put a commercial for the new game in theaters in front of a few movies, and no-one is even watching the movie itself. Just the distributing of a movie around the world like this isn't cheap, and that money would have been better spent on just marketing the game.

This franchise had one shot at transitioning into media outside of video games, and frankly i'm still surprised it even got that chance in the first place. And they completely blew it, not just for Ratchet and Clank, but also for Sly Cooper and possibly even Jak & Daxter, because with the way things are going I highly doubt anyone is going to fork over the money to finish Sly Cooper, even though I thought the initial teaser looked promising.

What hurts the most is that on paper, doing an R&C movie sounded great, and it looked promising even though it was clearly being done on a much smaller budget than Disney or Pixar-- and it could have opened the doors for other video games to be adapted into movies. Unfortunately, they had a bad script and no marketing, and thus the movie was doomed before it even got out the gate. It got completely ignored because audiences don't have time to watch an animated movie with bad reviews.
>>
>>336209901

So they do imply he goes robo in the movie?
>>
>>336204725
Well it's not hard to fuck up a remake of a game where the biggest flaw in the original was the gameplay itself in comparison to the R&C games that came after it.

The original had better plot, character development, OST, and way more levels/content than the remake. It even ran in 60FPS.

Nexus was the last attempt at IG making a mainline Ratchet game and it felt painfully average. I honestly think it's the worst mainline Ratchet game.

Plot of the original was barebones as fuck, man. And who cares about the framerate? The remake runs just fine with no dips.

As for Nexus, that was by their b-team with probably a few of the A-team members since around that time they had been doing everything from Fuse to Sunset overdrive along with ITN.

except it doesn't. The HD collection on ps3 is a better alternative as it runs at 60 fps, didn't have 7 worlds removed and doesn't remove a sizeable number of the original weaponry.
>>
>>336211682

Except it does. And the worlds argument is moot because it's following the same overall story as the film, which didn't include any of the "cut" worlds either. Seriously, you're scraping the barrel for things that hardly affect the game itself as a solid entry in the series.
>>
>>336211536

>>336210846
The animation in the trailers doesn't look bad, it just looks a lot less impressive now that Zootopia has spoiled us, and R&C was originally supposed to come out last year anyway. However, even though releasing it in 2015 might have been the difference bettween a 19% on RT and a 25% (which obviously, is negligable in the big picture), releasing it months ahead of the game would have harmed the game's sales, because the movie is not as good as the game and would have killed people's hype for it, which is probably why the release date had to flex around the game.

The thing is, there was barely any marketing for this movie, and the theatrical trailer failed to show that the movie was going to be anything more than yet another generic throwaway CG movie of which we've seen dozens over the last few years. And surprise surprise, that's what it was. If the movie had better writing they'd at least have more to work with in putting together a trailer, and if they had better writing they'd have a better end product which means the studio might have given them a bigger marketing push.

The problem is that they wanted to do a very ambitious idea of releasing a game and a movie at the same time, but even though they put a lot of effort into making a good game, they half-assed everything about the movie. If they weren't going to give it their best effort, they should have just made a game and saved the movie for when they could actually do it justice.
>>
>>336210915
It's really nice that the art department has improved so much but really I don't like the look they've been going with.

I think Ratchet looks awful with his rounded soft proportions and that dumb fur, The PS2 route of just coloring the model fur colored looked fine.

To be fair, yes, Rainmaker has come a long way in terms of animation quality, but the script for this movie was just plain bad. The only way you can save a bad script in animation is if you completely floor people with visuals, and this movie doesn't do that. From what I've gathered, most of what the movie shows is just Ratchet having some mishaps before becoming a ranger to showcase his recklessness (the driving school bit seen in a few trailers), Qwark's interation with Drek that leads to his betrayal (granted certain details are different that it doesn't completely fill in what the game doesn't show you), and Ratchet's brief retirement plays out differently.

On the bright side, if the Sly Cooper movie gets backburnered because this movie flopped, that at least might lay to rest questions about wether the next Sly Cooper game will be Sly 5 or a retelling of the first game the way R&C is. If there's no movie coming out, then that means the next game is less likely to be a reboot.

I liked Sly 4 so fuck you if you were hoping for a reboot instead of Sly 5. I at least want to see the conclusion of the time travel arc before they do that.

I know what they are, but honestly, hearing about them and seeing them are a different thing.

I'm not thinking any of them are gonna be GOOD. I just want to see them.

I get the impression that it's ok, nothing to gush about, but hardly the worst offense in game to movie we've seen. If anything, it's like the Mortal Kombat movie, it captures a lot of the heart and spirit (and in the case of R&C, the visuals are pretty much spot on), but fails to be anything other than "a movie based on a game".
