It wasn't that amazing and kinda sad when you realize the sole reason it was so enjoyable was because so many seventh gen third person shooters ripped off Gears that having something feel like a generic sixth gen third person shooter became a breath of fresh air.

story was okay, didn't retcon the lore and adhered to the rules of the universe pretty well, had a somewhat engaging story with probably its ending redeeming it
combat was fun for a few hours but shooting enemies doesn't feel all too rewarding and many of them tend to be too bullet spongey, pair that along with there being no upgrades or any RPG factor to saturate the game with stuff to do, and you've got yourself a fun game that becomes a chore during the last few missions
it's still nice, i wish we'd get more warhammer 40k games that aren't RTSs even though dawn of war is sick

If you suspect a Battle Brother of heresy, you report them to your Company Chaplain. That's the entire reason Chaplain's exist.

don't blame me because i don't have the patience to read all of the warhammer 40k novels to realize just how the space marines work, though i will concede that i was wrong about a fair bit
space marines are gay anyway, orks are the best and i know everything about them (though, I guess there isn't much to know)

I mean, at the time, mixing TPS combat with melee combat that had more depth than "smack enemy with the rifle one time" was unique and really cool. Christ, Platinum games made a TPS the year before and even IT had shallower melee.
Granted we've kind of moved on since then to shooters with a greater deal of melee complexity, but games like Warframe owe more than they may be willing to admit to Space Marine.
