I didn't really enjoy it last stress test; felt like all the heroes had been nerfed into being unfun and generic.

Lucio now has to hang in the back and can't ever go toe to toe with anyone
Gorilla Grodd's shield got nerfed, there's just no point to using him not even on payload maps
Bastion is still worthless outside of disorganized pubs
Tjorb is still worthless outside of disorganized pubs
Mercy is still 100% vital at all times and if your team doesn't have one but the enemy does, you lose. Same for Lucio, Lucio & Mercy combo
D.va can't do cool shit with her suit anymore with the projectile blocking aspect (they needed to make it like Mei's icewall, not remove that aspect entirely). I think they nerfed her in other ways, she seemed less viable all around but that's just anecdote

Besides main=/=favorite. "Main" is a term from the FGC and it means the character you mainly play in competitive play. It is in no way an indication of your favorite. In AE more than half the community mained Yang, that didn't mean he was their favorite, it meant he was broken and thus a popular main.

Not that guy. I played the earlier stress test beta and while I changed my picks every game based on map/team comp, I stayed with the same pick throughout the whole game most of the time.
I don't have a point here other than, honestly no clue if that's a good thing or not, or if that's how it'll continue to be. Blizzard seems to think people should be constantly switching characters mid-game, and players are going to have a hell of a lot of trouble learning to do that because every other competitive game every generally actively opposes it.
I'm interested to see how the "professional" scene falls into place via the player roles and all that.

Let's take tanking for example: I loved D.Va and Winston, but I had to acknowledge Reinhardt was better in many situations and played him more often.
Even within the roles, there's variety which means you're always going to have to be switching and counter picking.
It's not like TF2 where you can just main soldier and call it a day, or whatever; you have to get good with (and understand) all the characters, like a MOBA or a fighter. The points stupid though, because you had to this this with TF2 as well.

Reinhardt absolutely obliterates every other tank but could never pressure a back lane or sniper to save his life. DVa is the exact opposite.
I'm not advocating everyone start the game and randomly select characters at each death. That's retarded. Play characters for whole sets or matches before bothering with swaps. Learn them, really learn each and every one. Countering comes later. Just don't play 80% of your time as one character or even one character between each role. You should never have a default you trust after getting comfortable with one character. Always, always, always be fluid on picks because your team won't be and the faster you learn to fill the gaps they leave, the more knowledge you gain, the better your counter game becomes.

Picking characters honestly is not so hard as it sounds reading it. It will naturally come to you as you progress. Time spent dealing with each character and playing as each will teach you x works great on y, area 1 is extremely helpful for character 2, this ability is a great resolution to that one. Then you start to put it all together and it just clicks. Alternatively, I'm sure some streaming has made a longwinded guide detailing every tiny thing you can do with any combo of characters and levels to get easy kills, but it's honestly not hard to learn organically.

Poor defense really. Rein will two shot him with charge and wave, anyway. DVa will shoot through it and nearly equal the healing it does in dps. Then she hits E, absorbs him full slug, unloads some more, then flies off before he reloads. She'll get her cds back before he gets his heal, so over time he loses. In any amount greater than 1v1, she gets stronger by letting E block for her buddies too while Roadhog has zero synergy with just about everyone and no way to prevent incoming damage. Even if he hooks one of her helpers, he has to try meleeing them to death before they get behind her barrier and run for heals.
Against monkey though, yeah. Monkey is going to eat it most of the time but that's him being a weak tank, not Roadhog being a tankbuster.

D.Va is not Tracer/Lucio tier mobile, therefore she's still easy to hit. If she jets to cover, Hog presses E. Matrix is great if it's two teams running into each other, but a decent Hog won't stay bunched with his team, he'll go for a flank. So either the D.Va Matrixes toward the Hog, leaving her unprotected toward the main firing line, or she Matrixes toward the bulk of the team and Hog can hook her out of position and expose whatever she's blocking.
In a duel scenario, Hog wins easily. He's got more mid-range options, he does more damage in close, he's more tanky, and he's far more likely to go into the fight in ideal circumstances as he's got a self-heal and is not ult-reliant.
