Because they flat out confirmed during the June 2015 ATR that there will still be the gameplay in Insomnia and that it just happens at a different point in the game now instead of the intro sequence, the intro sequence now is chapter 0 which is right into a battle in an undisclosed location and implied we might not be controlling Noctis during chapter 0, which sort of hints towards it being Regis in a flashback during the war being chapter 0, then chapter 1 starts with Noctis leaving insomnia and some intro cutscenes and then them heading out to Leide the desert area right outside Insomnia and on his way to Altissia the Venice like Kingdom, the invasion then happens and Noctis and co try going back to Insomnia but are blocked out of the city by Niflheim, this is where the story takes a serious turn with Noctis now exiled and with the news that his father is dead, the head back on their journey to Altissia and they go on their road trip with the goal is to get the power to destroy Niflheim by getting the summons, and that's when the Leviathan sequence in Altissia happens with it wreaking havoc, that's as far as we know of the story
Versus started with Noctis in insomnia and the invasion happens then he's exiled, can't go back in because Niflheim blocked them out so they are in Leide the desert area and go on a road trip to get the power to destroy Niflheim by getting the summons and the rest of the story from here is the same as what we know in XV

In fact every one of them look identical since the 2011 Versus trailer in clothes and design, with only Promoto's face/ hair modified a bit by Nomura between 2013-2014, Regis's facs/hair changed to just be closer to his movie facial capture actor which the movie started in 2013 but they only decided to change his game face/hair in 2015, and other than that Stella changed into Luna, that's it.
Noctis, Ignis, Gladiolus, Iedolas, Aranea all look 100% identical to how they looked in 2011 Versus trailer
Regis and Prompto look 90% identical to how they looked in 2011 Versus trailer with only their face / hair being modified
Stella changed to Luna looks about 50% the same and still follows the same design sense of blonde woman in white dress.

It's not a well made game. Try jumping while walking with kid Noctis. He will stop for a moment and stand up straight before he continues walking again because they do not have an animation for him landing in stride at that speed.
Controls were unresponsive when I fought the golem too. I do like the feeling that Noct is a regular guy aside from his powers, and when he gets hit a few times, he can barely move until he is healed by magic. Fairly unique for a jrpg.
That did manage to create a feeling of tension (until I was auto healed instead of dying lol), but overall the combat was bad and the little glimpse of the story we got was nothing interesting.

KH 2 FM Critical Mode is the definition of depth and masterful control input. You need to use ALL your resources to survive and not just spam certain shit or attack blindly because you will die. You need to learn enemy and boss attack and move patterns and find the best opening to attack. Summons and Magic play a major key and sometimes is the deciding factor if you live or die. Certain bosses you need to have the right equipment or Keyblade equipped or you're fucked.
Weapon Swithcing is nice but it still doesn't have the overall depth the KH 2 FM Critical has.
