I fancy myself a paladin, kinda sucks though that there are no good faith scaling weapons and the blessed weapon buff doesn't scale at all. Many weapons have "faith" and religious themes in their description, yet they don't scale with faith.
I'll try a magic only faith build in NG+ mixing miracles and dark spells to supplement the relatively weak miracle line up.

well, when i weapon art, i always unlock mid combo and do a heavy 1h behind me or to the side, cause the reflex for most folks is to try to roll around you after the combo. i won my last 3 duels that way. the key is to release the heavy 1h as they are halfway through their roll, so you hit them coming out of it.

Any staff, the difference is how well they scale with your Intellect. A few staffs scale with faith for dark casters but you'll know it cause they tell you in the description. There is also two that allow you to cast as if they were staves, look them up at the wiki for specifics.
Stick with low strength, high dex weapons; curved swords, daggers, whips. Your main stats are: Hp > Int > FP > Dex. Hp to survive taking hits, Int for damage, FP to cast more than twice and dex so you're not useless in melee. In your first run, consider any stat at 40 points to be capped, cause that is when they hit negative yields.

Scaling seems to be weird for staffs, heretics staff has way more base spell power than most staffs so it will be the best early on but at high int you want to switch to a staff with better scaling. I might be mistaken, I just made a spellcaster character

Infusions rock in this game. Refined is the best for most builds, ups scaling all around in exchange for less base damage. Raw Astora's straight sword is great for vit gouge. Heavy and sharp for pure dex/str. Simple is good for parry2off hand weapons because it passively restores fp

Okay, smug anime chad. Since you are obviously incapable of exploration, here comes to choo choo so open wide.You can farm Lothric Knights for some of the best shit available early game or otherwise. They drop everything you see on them.
If you have Loretta's bone you can give that shit to Greirat and get access to plenty of good shit like Knight's set which is great and top tier fashion. Up in the area past the road of sacrifice you can find a plethora of armor sets and can farm a greatsword black knight for everything he has. Give a Siegbrau, spine segment, and a homeward bone to the crows nest for the gloves and chest of a good armor set along with a good hat and explore the area in past the jump off of the lift to the giant to meet Siegward and find Lucatiel's set.
This should be more than enough for you or anyone else.

Is the Fashion in 3 the weakest it's been since DeS or is it just me?
DeS had great armors don't get me wrong, there just werent that many of them.
DaS also had few armors, but many pieces fit with other sets.
DaS2 had great Fashion, lots of armors and they could be mixed a lot.
With DaS3, there's a decent ammount of armors, but a LOT of them can't be mixed with others without looking retarded. Either the colors are wrong, the proportions are off or there's waaaay to much skin being shown in the worst places. Necks in particular.

I just spent 17 deaths trying to get to / kill the demon before Smoldering Lake on my pyromancer character.

80 is where most people finish the game and where most people are staying until the pvp meta evolves. If you care about honor duels, I wouldn't go past 100 for now. If you are in it for actual invasions you should be making characters to stay in specific level ranges for respective zones.

I had something like that happen on a character I made last week.
Just finished a STR run and wanted to do Sorceries. Made a sorc and was struggling the entire way through, even though I reserved upgrade materials and alloted souls towards a better weapon, I was still eating compelte and utter shit at every turn, even in areas that are easy as fuck and I had never struggled with before.
Ended up eating so much shit so hard so many times, I just lost all desire to even touch the character deleted the fucker.

Area progression being linear doesn't bother me as much as it probably should, because my prefered level design is actually funneled hubs.
