The save system in DR1 was perfect and actually made it a survival horror game. If you mismanaged your time you could make it impossible to finish the game without doing a loop.
In DR2 you could just stagger save which killed that. Then you had fucking autosaves in 3.
I still like DR2:OtR though. Everything but 3 and Chop Till You Drop is good.
