MH4U I enjoy playing more, simply because I absolutely loathed water gameplay in 3. Sucks cause some of my favorite mons weren't in 4 tho, so they kinda balance for me.

4U has some really terrible monster choices. Khezu is the worst thing to come out of the series and is infinitely inferior to Gigginox. The dromes and their jumping attacks look stupid, and in particular having Iodrome instead of Great Wroggi was a poor choice. We didn't need both Gypceros and Kut-ku. One of those should have been the much more interesting Qurupeco. Cutting all the leviathans was wholly unnecessary. At least have Lagiacrus or Agnaktor.
3U was also a lot better about subspecies feeling different. Baleful Gigginox and Gigginox, Qurupeco, Barioth and Sand Barioth, etc. So many of 4U's subspecies are just palette swaps with maybe one extra or changed attack.
I hope the next mainline game gets an HD port to a console.
I know the 3DS is required because japs love the portables, but i'd like a big screen
3U is a slower game, from gamepad being a shitty wireless controller to the combat itself not having the cool new shit 4U brings to the table.
That and the flagship and new dragon both being terrible underwater fights.
