The first two games were pretty simple (the dev has put them up for free), and the series starts with 3 on Steam. I think 4 is the first entry that is polished enough to be a standard "real" game.

I actually just beat the third earlier today, imagine I'll get to the fourth sometime soon. Was definitely fun.
Before I buy this I gotta know. Is this more like a Castlevania or Metroid title? Secondly and more importantly, are the PC controls shit to the point where I will need a controller? I had that issue with Rabi Ribi.

I played 4 first, so going backwards into 3 feels pretty awkward. From what little I've heard of 3, all has been good so far though.

I think it's more like Castlevania in the sense that you'll be using your melee weapon a lot.
I haven't tried the game without a controller before so I can't tell.
