I would suggest Bayonetta then. Also Vanquish, even though it's a shooter.
If you're new to action games, Ninja Gaiden may be too difficult, although the game does feature some great controls. DMC3 and 4 are iffy; some think 3 is harder, but then some think 4 is harder.
