It made no sense. Kael had it basically spelled out to him that Kil'jaeden was the reason for the lich king, and by extension was therefore responsible for the sacking of Quel'thalas.
Why the fuck would Kael ever join Kil'jaeden? The only reasonable option would be Kil'jaeden handing the Illidari their asses so hard that Kael and the rest of his belves join the Legion because they see no other means for survival. Either you join the Legion, or you go extinct.
