Nintendo made 3D World and 3D Land at the same time, and then changed up 3D World depending on the reception 3D Land and the initial 3D World reveal got.
I suppose IS did the same thing with Color Splash. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to delay the game to create original NPC sprites and maybe make the battle system a little less like Sticker Star (but I don't expect any massive change).

None. They intended for the game be released this year. It's probably already nearing completion. They aren't going to remake the entire thing.
With any luck they'll have plans to begin work on a paper mario that people want to play.

Intelligent Systems said this is new direction for Paper Mario since Sticker Star.
They might take some feedback and make it better but it's unlikely, and they're not going to throw everything out to make TTYD2 either.

It's a real shame sticker star is in bargain bins all the times at the shop and they pretty give it away in bundles. I've not liked paper mario since ttyd so I doubt it's gonna get better now
