Many normal folk don't give a shit about censorship in vidya, and Nintendo's target audience is normal folk. So all the extra publicity by internet nerds just makes more normal folk aware of the games.
The only other games that really get censored are niche stuff and literal panty quests whose only audience, let alone target, are internet nerds who actually care about censorship in one way or another. Normal folk will already be put off by the base premise whether it's censored or not. So all it does it hurt sales.
