GSC, maybe since those games don't currently have a way to transfer to current generations. FireRed and LeafGreen still can, although you'd need to jump through a few hoops.

Pokemon in Generation II actually had their genders and whether they were shiny assigned depending on their IVs.
They overhauled that in Gen III, which is why you can't trade from II to III, they're incompatible because they use completely different values to determine things.
They'll probably just randomize it in Pokebank.

Gen I and II basically had IVs and EVs, although they were under a different name and had different mechanics. Most people know this, but simply can't be arsed to remember the names of the old things.

Not really. IV's are basically the same, except instead of going from 0~31 they go 0~15. They could just double it then give a 50/50 chance of +1 or +0. Then reset EV's, randomly generate natures and abilities.
