It's pretty fun, but it runs like shit even on N3DS. It also looks noticeably worse than 4U. However it's still fun, but I wouldn't treat it as the latest installment in the mainline series but rather treat it for what it is: an anniversary game that features a bunch of old content from different games mixed into one.

I'll never understand writing off Monster Hunter as nothing but grinding. You WANT to be fighting monsters. You get things by fighting the monsters. You are literally always doing what you want to be doing. It's not like you have to go kill 100x to progress the story or some shit.
It's not like you even need special armor sets. Just make whatever is available to you, stack defense and make up the rest with skill.

Styles are awful, instead of giving yourself an identity of how to hunt (Which would have been picking different variations of moves you like and create your own moveset like Godhand and PSO2) it locks you into single movesets that are normally crippled
Hunting Arts are actually fine with adding this idea of customizing to your playstyle but since the evade skills are stupidly broken 9/10 times you will be using them or Frenzy drink
Can't be too negative, the flagships are all amazing and I can't compare them to other monsters unlike a certain other game where every monster is "Oh it's like x but with y"
The soundtrack is also better than 4U's but everything else is a bit sad
Deviants are also a pretty good system but people always seem to realize that higher levels drop lower level tickets as well so rooms are turned into a grind, you should have been there with the mhg tempest cuga room a few days ago

Depends on the kind of game.
In Monster Hunter you grind by actively playing the game and can speed the process up by actually performing well, encouraging you to get better at the game. You grind to get better, and you get better by grinding. That's how the progression works.
Which is not the same thing as playing a mobile style "clicker" game where time is the really the only factor, and you're grinding just for the sake of grinding. There's no challenge or skill or strategy involved, you're just touching a screen until it tells you good job.
Then rinse and repeat.
