There's no such thing as a "true" 3D Mario because all of them have different gameplay.
Sunshine strapped on a water gun and then it was about spraying, cleaning, and using different nozzles.
Galaxy took you into space and made the gameplay gravity-based as you move from tiny planetoids to other tiny planetoids. It was much more linear and had less movement options than the other 2 too.
Fanboys like you continue to want 64 2 despite the games not being like 64 for years and don't realize every 3D Mario does something new.
