It was better in literally every way. You could own every piece of land in Fable 2 and the world was fucking huge.
There was a fucking awesome social system that allowed for families, orgies, and all sorts of crazy shit. It was way improved from the first.
Combat was better in EVERY way
The setting AND the atmosphere was better. It nailed the twisted fairytale vibe way better than the 1st game
There was a SHIT ton more content from actual side quests, to shit to explore, to jobs...
The only thing that sucked about it was it had no death penalty, which was stupid as fuck, and the co-op was limited to one screen.

I'm the 4th guy you replied to. I played the first 3 Fable games. The combat is more satisfying in 2 but overall it's better in 1 because you can actually die and magic works better in 1.
Additionally, I overall enjoyed 1 more, no questions. But you'd be blind not to realise that 2 did some things better. It wasn't like 3 that was a total downgrade.
