There can always be some that are pretty skilled, at least more than your average man, and many others just seem to have guard notice. And if you notice, it's not like there's a shit load of them. But in spite of this, there's only really a few female warriors here and there, but it's like, what, maybe 1 for every 20 male warrior? And I can certainly buy that that many might at least be pretty competent fighters on account of their life style, at least enough to stand around on guard duty which seems to be most of them.

Vikings had shieldmaidens and most women knew how to fight - this was because the men would go raiding and the shieldmaidens and women would need to be capable of defending the town from bandits

Honestly, what I love about the game is that you can just play any 30m-2h side quest per session and feel like you just completed a whole game, they are THAT good, and you don't feel forced to follow through the main quest until you're about 3/4 in. At least that's what happened to me, it's very relaxed until you get to Skellige.
You can just play it a bit and get back to it after a few months and still feel satisfied with it.

Think a NEW TV-series about A song of Ice and Fire, this time with more attention to detail and more episodes, thus being more faithful to the series. the game of the year edition will be overwhelmingly intimidating for anyone who feels compelled to complete games they start. But for normal non-autistic types I think this game will sell at a steady rate for a long time. Especially with all the free content and mods they release.
However its hard to play W3 for a long time or session to session because I feel like the game needs some more fluidity and direct control to combat, playing W3 compared to Darksouls 3 or even Darksouls 1 theres a very strong feeling of disconnection between you and Geralt, you press one or two buttons and he performs acrobatic tricks, parries for you, throws out strikes up and down, for something you do constantly the combat is by and large very spectator-like.
Making a player feel skillful from the get go is great for casual players and some games, but this is a long ass journey, there's a lot of combat and it caps the enjoyment where you are just waiting for raw boots to damage and doing the same thing for hours at a time.
I like the game, I find the quests diverse, the world looks great in 2.5k, dialogue isnt even that bad the game as a whole feels good, its a good game. But man why was combat left so basic.

Did you play the Witcher 2? Didn't you feel the abandonment of directional combat, which I find more immersive, for Heavy and Fast Attack with a parry+block button cheapens the experience. I beat the final boss by rolling around and spamming light attack for free crits. Ciri's parts become stupid almost immediately when you start insta-killing everyone. Im not on the hardest difficulty but hard just appears to be a straight increase in enemy HP but no really additional layer to combat. Playing a run with just Sigils was fun but again is not that stimulating, I found myself only having to use ignie, even the Frog Prince who really kicked my ass on my melee build died almost immediately.

There's only a couple of good builds for W3 and the options are so good you're only hindering yourself by not using them.
Skills are horribly unbalanced its obvious and so everyone runs the game in basically two ways and does the same thing the whole time.
Changing weapons around is fun but why the fuck wherent there more unique and interesting things to play with, the Sabre (or katana?) and the spade from Hearts of stone are the only unique effect weapons I found the whole time.

Human enemies will 100% of the time parry the first 3 hits and get hit by the next. You can mash left click if 1v1 and win everytime since the game doesn't have stamina.
Small monsters like drowners or nekkers will 100% of the time take 3 hits and then launch an instant counterattack if you dare hit them the 4th time in a row.
