They were very xbox things; modded xbox basically invented the idea of doing all that shit on your TV. Before Roku, over-the-top, smart TVs... way before any of that there was modded xbox. It's why Kodi used to be called XBox Media Center.
Normal xbox could do some of those things, but Microsoft's software was nowhere close to unlocking the full potential of the console.
Dreamcast you could do a lot of the same stuff without even having a modded system; you just needed the right disc. But it didnt have a HDD in it so it wasn't as good for it as xbox

I like them all for different reasons. The Dreamcast is probably my personal favorite, followed by the Gamecube, the PS2 and the Xbox. That's also the order in which I bought them (I didn't get an Xbox until about a year or two ago). They are all good and none of them are bad, which is probably why the 6th gen was the finest generation of console gaming ever. Only the 4th gen can really come close in terms of sheer greatness.

Xbox was basically "hidden gems" the console. Not only was it Sega's honorary Dreamcast 2 but MS was actually trying real hard to appeal to gamers of all kinds. I was a big GC fan back in the day but looking at it now I can see it was definitely the weakest of the three in regards to library variety, Rare's presence was sorely missed.
