Because Undertale does everything it does better.
I haven't finished Earthbound yet. And haven't even touched Mother 1.

Only reason people play it is because it's a "cult classic" and is "really funny".
I fell for the " Mother is good" meme and payed the price.
Compared to it, Undertale is a masterpiece.

I played through it in raw japanese the moment the rom got dumped, but I still haven't played the fantranslation. I should probably get around to that someday.

I want to like the Mother games but every time I play them I just get bored with the gameplay and wind up quitting.
The music and charm the games carry are so nice but I can't get over the generic slow-as-molasses copy-paste DQ combat.
I have like 6 times. I think this is the game I've replayed the most.

Have you ever played GBA in a real GBA? GC in a GC, etc? Emulation doesn't feel right. It sure does make it look like the real thing (and sometimes "better") sans PS/64, but it misses the feel of it.
I know, call it nostalgia googles, novelty or anything, but emulation just doesn't feel right for me.

I didn't finish Earthbound yet. I remember dropping it after my party got put into robots.
anyway, i'd have to play Mother 1 (now that I know it exists), and play Earthbound AGAIN before I can even start Mother 3. That's too much commitment

If you don't enjoy grinding, skip Mother 1. The game's got it's charm but having to grind every single time you get a new party member was quite frustrating. You won't be missing anything.

Or you could just play Mother 25th Anniversary Edition, which restores all of the cut content / changes and rebalances it so there isn't a grind.
