Nothing. Notch is rich and is a good way to distract kids.
It had a much larger scope then Notch could handle, then it slowly became what the community who played it wanted, rather then what Notch intended it to become. With his child becoming something then he originally intended he passed it off to someone else and moved on.

Me and my buddy always play MC when a bigger update comes out just for the sake of old times. Strangely enough 1.9 brought some enjoyable changed, yet everything else is still a joke.
I don't get why hunger is so bad. It's hardly an obstacle.
