In Chapter 2 of BG2 I always leave one slot open to swap companions and do quests with. The downside of swapping all your companions is experience wasted on people you dont use.

Why is edwin so thin? Why does viconia look ugly as hell? Why does Xzar look appealing? Why do none of these adventurers have any form of scars? Say what you want of the original portraits but the scars and other features fit those characters role, with the tankier party members having more scars, and newbie adventurers looking cleaner.

The writer called BG a very sexist game that she wanted to address in the expansion. That's not a good way to get your audience's good will.
Other than that, it is more linear than motherfucking ToB, removes half of the original companions (but keeps all 8! of Beamdog's OCs) because they absolutely must have party banter or some shit and writing is hard (but adding 8 fucking romances to a less than 10 hour long expansion is A-OK), the story is dumb as hell, and really the game does nothing special. And of course the UI is crap, and plenty of bugs on release

I'm not saying there are no ways, but that there is basically nothing that doesn't require meta-knowledge. Yes, if you kick her out of the party the romance ends. But how are you supposed to know that? Yes, depending on how you handle the bandit attack, you can easily break it. But the problem is, the romance is so closely connected to her companion questline that you have basically no way to predict whether your option will end the romance, or end in her dying, leaving the party for good, and so on. Not without meta-knowledge.
There is no reason why there can't be dialog options that clearly indicate your intention to end or not even start the romance without being a total dick about it.

I had him in my Lawful good run when i tried to play without best girl for once and try some EE npcs, also tried to have as much clerics as possible, pc was a cleric too. Yes i did that dialogue too and now in late game viconia is in love with my character. So don't worry. If you still do you can open eekeeper/shadowkeep (depends of version you play on) and go to save's global values. Find viconiaromance variable. 1 means it is on early stages, 2 means that you are together in love, 3 means that you screwed up the romance.

Are you playing BG1 or BG2? Party members are much more fleshed out in BG2 although there are mods for that for BG1. For BG1, Jaheira's anti-mage spells can be useful but you don't really get very many good weapon choices for druids in BG1 and Edwin's amulet makes him the best mage in the game. Minsc is a good martial character and you can give him Spider's Bane and have him run through webs and kill everything that's stuck. Branwen is a good cleric you can get early on in the carnival and I always stick with Imoen. Also >>335863178 is total garbage and not in BG1

A lot of games do that "romance ends after last dialogue" thing, and I hate that. If these were the original designs there wouldn't be a problem, but these ones are inconsistent. Characters that were scarred (which showed their adventurer experiance) are now supermodels. Characters that actually were supposed to be attractive look... off. Edwin looks like a twig, minsc looks like a russian stereotype, Xzar should not look that attractive etc. etc. It doesn't fit the characters okay!
