The worst part about Bioware's writing is that it lacks any real grit in regards to sexuality or gender. But they aren't.
The argument has been done to death, but compare the gay characters in New Vegas or The Witcher to those made by Bioware or Anthony Burch. In New Vegas, they're all extremely well fleshed out characters on top of being gay. Shit, look at Veronica and Arcade's character arcs. Arcade's whole story is having to hide who he is because he's a part of a group who is hated by everyone, and he's also gay. Being gay strengthens his character, but it isn't his character. And nearly everyone else who is gay can be talked about it, and you hear people's mixed opinions about homosexuality. It makes the world feel real.
Compare that to Inquisition, where everyone is completely accepting of all gays and no dialogue exists that isn't patting them on the back or asking about them being gay so that they can be patted on the back.
Look at Krem, who only exists so that you can hear about how it's okay to be trans, or Dorian, whose character arc is "My dad doesn't like me because I'm gay tell him he's wrong!"

Some characters are gay, but it's not brought up unless it's directly relevant, or it's just background information, and beyond that, they're just like any other character.
