Bioshock 2 improved the gameplay and level design, and at least had an original story that didn't rip off another game completely.

So many people only started playing games in 2007 when the Wii got popular and then got a 360/PS3 and then the first few AAA release story games they played suddenly got huge mainstream acclaim out of nowhere, even though they were no better, or even worse than a lot of previous games. It was so obvious at the time there were newfags in gaming everywhere and demographics were changing seeing that mediocre shit started getting praised to the high heavens, and suddenly old features became "revolutionary".

It was CoD4, not the Wii. It helped though. It was marketed to families, so that's how today's minecraft generation got introduced to games, but ultimately Call of Duty is what taught the mainstream to play games. Its why their all subhuman Abu Hajjars.
I love the first game but Bioshock 2 was, in my eyes, an even better game than the first for many reasons, the way plasmids always function as some kind of alt-attack instead of BS1's way of having to put away your gun and "wielding" the plasmid as another
Also hacking minigames were much less annoying and immersive breaking and I also think the enemy variety was better, and they somehow managed to make that tedious "protect little sister harvesting" shit that was already piss boring and annoying in one single fucking corridor in the first game a completely okay and endurable gameplay element in the second one.especially with how many trap you could set up. I actually really liked roaming those areas and setting up mines and trip wires and little turrets and hacking security cams before letting the Little Sister harvest. If you prepped well enough the area basically defended itself and I really enjoyed that shit.
This was all over the whole game in Bioshock 2 and I loved it and it made sense and was optional, while in Bioshock 1 you had that harvesting part in one single corridor before the final boss and it felt out of place and was tedious and I hated it.
2 had no big plot twists like the first game, it was a much more straight forward story, but it felt much more personal, and I really liked the story.
2 is basically a natural expansion of 1, another story set in that world, with improved gameplay elements all over the place, a really good sequel hands down.
now Bioshock Infinite, that game was just pure crap, from start to finish, shit plot, shit gameplay, shit visuals, and I wish I still had those 30€ so I could put them into something I'd enjoy more.

The Wii is what introduced the mainstream the gaming, a lot of kids and teenagers of course went and got PS3/360 and played COD4 as well as other AAA shit at the time. I played both games on hard, and in the second you feel just as squishy as the first one. So much for the "Big Daddy experience". If it weren't for the underwater parts (which had no combat and were just pointless walks) and the drill, I'd forget I was playing one at all.
