They won this console generation simply by virtue of not fucking up as bad as MS or Nintendo. I mean, most people don't even view Nintendo consoles are competing with the other 2 anymore. They don't get multiplats and the first party library has been weak since the GC era. I had 180MB patch or so for Bloodborne GOTY, played R&C through without patches (later on they just made a patch for a Photo Mode and lowering difficulty of hoverboard races because they had insane rubberbanding on Hard), Type-0 HD had a small patch to reduce motion blur, Dragon Quest Heroes had no patches, Gravity Rush Remastered had no patches, Digimon Cyber Sleuth patches added more digimons and were small.
All in all, had I not updated them all of them could've still been playable without patches. You can literally just not connect to the internet and leave the game unpatched.

Vaio was successful at first but eventually failed because Sony tried to be the Apple with Windows.
