If you're referring to the gameplay it doesn't really get much better and it's probably best to lower the difficulty to easy since all that does is remove the necessity to grind.
If your talking about story I started to get more invested when the other witches showed up.

Go get frog staffs and fill a weapon set with them. It really helps you in early-game
Also set the difficulty to Casual if you haven't. If you chose Normal at the start, just go to the lamppost to the right of the shop in the swamp and talk to it
You don't get penalized. It really just spares you some shitty grinding especially for the last few chapters
Also, trust me, Metallia becomes more sympathetic. Like, by the end, her dickish actions make at least SOME sense though she still went pretty over the line
