Because they are a fairly successful dev who have made a number of games in this series, and have released many games on multiple platforms already including Pirate's Curse just two years ago.
I'll pay for their new Shantae game when it is a finished product.

There was no way of getting a "refund" since neither Comcept or Kickstarter never offered them, in fact I'm sure Comcept denied any refunds requests, people who said they got refunds only did chargebacks on their credit cards, doing chargebacks on $20 purchases is a good way of fucking up your bank credit.
