A room is made up of more than just the textures. Also you're wrong The best levels of Doom were seperated into different sections each with their own textures so that the rooms don't look or feel the same. Look at the first episode of Doom 1, it's mostly set in a samey military base but there are a lot of computer rooms, dark spooky hallways, all sorts of machinery, etc.
