So I finished DR2 last nightThat fucking last trial was amazing, especially Nagito's plan, but I was disappointed that they tried to put the ending as "not hope nor despair" while it was clearly hoping they would be alright against all evidence. Also that it was confirmed that Hinata actually recovers.
For me, at least, DR1>DR2, because the cases of 2 were godawful barring 1 and 5, I hated the new gimmicks and there was way less foreshadowing than there was in DR1. But 2-5 is probably my favorite trial.
Anyway, I got a question. I've seen this image around and I hear it's about an anime. Are we not getting a Danganronpa 3 game? Also, is there anything I should play/read/watch in addition to the two main series games in order to "catch up"?

The DR3 will come soon in Japan, it's called V-Danganronpa 3.
The anime is starngely called Danganronpa 3 despite having little to no ties to the incoming game. It's basically the prequel and sequel to the two first games.
But most importantly, I want to bully Saionji so much. I want to scold her to tears and throw her into pool. I want to take her gummies and eat them in front of her. Then I'll force-feed her with lemon-flavored gummies, palm after palm. I want to call her a stinky and take her panties so she has to going commando for the rest of the trip. I liked the second game better. I thought I would go into it hating it because of the new cast but they really grew on me. Although the annoying characters, Hiyoko and Nagito, I hated them more than any characters in DR1.
I really wanted to see what they all looked like outside of the game I feel cheated that they only showed Hajime.

Beat DR1 and currently on case 2 of DR2.
DR1 was an excellent premise, and it really felt like despair. Makoto was pretty based. Characters as a whole I liked more.
DR2's setting and grafics feel a lot higher quality, and case 1 was already more of a ruse cruise than most cases in DR1, but I don't really care for anybody but Gundam, Nagito, and maybe Chiaki. Hajime feels extremely boring.

The entire idea behind the executions is "brutal death, stylish/comic execution". Sure Monokuma could just chop their limbs off one by one or expose them to a nuclear reactor until their skin sloughs off, but there's no style to it. Plus, it means Monokuma doesn't get to trivialize their death by having them die in a goofy way.

When all the protagonists are actually villains and a character tries to kill all of them it's hard to tell where exactly you should place him. I think that's one of the big reasons I like 2 so much. All the characters actually being evil is a really interesting twist.

Holy fuck OP I did too. After being spoiler-free for three years, I've finally beaten the game. What a wild ride. I can't wait for the anime, though I do feel a little weird about it. Shame I showed up 50 posts away from bump limit though.
OpinionsChapter 1 was a cool intro, though I could see Byakuya biting it coming a mile away. Execution was great
Chapter 2 was also pretty cool, teared up a bit at the anguish of Peko's death
Chapter 3 I really didn't like, but I guess knowing they're all Ultimate Despair Students it makes a lot more sense and makes me feel better about it in retrospect. Could see Mikan being the killer coming a mile away though. And I'm sad Ibuki had to die too, I liked them both a hell of a lot. Execution was the worst of the game though
Chapter 4 was pretty fucking great honestly, no complaints. Komaeda segments were cool
Chapter 5 was off the fucking walls great. Nothing else needs to be said
Finale was really awesome, though I'm sad that Junko was the mastermind again. Also, I'm a little dissapointed Naegi wasn't actually Komaeda, and I felt if Junko didn't impersonate Makoto at first his arrival would have been much more climactic. It was still fucking awesome though. Haven't played Island Mode yet and I don't know if I'll bother.

Ultimate Despair Girls is coming to steam, right? I saw a bunch of pictures like in the theater and Chaika's room, so I assume it will be. I'm just annoyed it'll probably be in June or something since all I got is my PC. Glad I bought both games though, I love supporting the series. I actually like how the characters in 2 were revealed to be Ultimate Despairs, because for some of them it really makes sense. Sonia has a country (albeit a small, ridiculous one) behind her back, Peko and Babyface are Yakuza and are closer to being bad guys then good, Ultimate Imposter is obviously fishy, Mikan could do some dubious shit to sick people, Teruteru could poison food, etc. I liked that part at least, some of them seem more predisposed to despair rather then hope. Then again people like Saionji or Mahiru don't quite fit, but we'll have to see how the anime ends up.

I'm glad they announced 2 coming to steam like two months ago because with the anime announcement I was in a real bind of either having to look up spoilers and watching the anime or refraining until I could somehow play 2 and missing the show while it was airing. Gladly, it all worked out and I'm totally ready to see these stories wrap up, but I do feel a little weird about a couple things involving the anime, namely how their going on simultaneously, and how anime is a strange platform to end these character's stories considering its a game series. But we'll see I guess.

I agree, but at the same time I sort of don't want the characters from 1 having plot armor, but I'll be pissed if Kyoko or Makoto dies. I didn't watch the anime cause it came out like weeks after the fan translation and it didn't make sense to me to play the game and immediately see everything all over again in the anime, so I'm not sure how class trials or the executions looked in the anime. I also hope they make it noticeable the cast from 1 are adults besides putting them in suits. Seems like everyone's an adult in Kibou-hen so that might change things up.
