Am I the only one who actually feels that the south island was the best part of the game? The Privateers were more formidable enemies that made for better gunfights, you had access to the second set of weapons which were arguably the best, you had most of your skills by that point and personally, I prefer the landscapes of the south island to the north

Depends, Far Cry 2 is as stripped back as a big budget game is ever going to get.
The core gameplay, attacking outposts and bases, is excellent and it has an incredible immersive quality. But that is it, there's nothing else other than a loose story which is kind of Heart of Darkness meets Fight Club.

Way better than their attempts to write characters. Vaas, the CIA guys and the rapist are entertaining but nobody of the dudebro squad is engaging. Its really funny but insanely frustrating and tedious at times due to guard posts always being reinforced once you walk away.
I liked it more than Fc3 though. There are also lots of fun mods to choose from after a vanilla playthrough which is cool.

The gunfights in Far Cry 2 are some of the best in video games.
There are so many ways that a carefully planned attack can go completely to shit and leave you in an intense fight to survive.
It's not a game you can easily play for 6 hours at a time though, because you are essentially doing exactly the same thing over and over regardless of all the different things that can happen.
