I don't understand the hate, I played 2 and it was awesome, I played this and it was also awesome. I'm starting to think /v/ just hate new things and then when they become more vintage it's suddenly "good".

It got too popular, that was a mistake.

I played 1,2 and 3. Couldn't really care about the characters but the whole political intrigue and development had me enticed, especially at end of Witcher 2. Trying to understand all the countries took some time but that just bolstered my love for the franchise
>>
>>335678248

yeah I will agree that the combat is a bit lacking BUT I only say this because I played the game on normal difficulty and after I got to like level 20 my silver sword fucked everything up in two swings.

Earlier in the game I was fighting monsters like the lady in the woods and some wyverns and having intense epic battles using all my potions, signs and patience to beat the monster
>>
>>335678248
Witcher 1 combat was god awful, it has come a long way and that why a lot of people praised it
>>

>>
>>335678094
there are no real hate. most people just use it to shitpost. Either to stir up Witcherfags or Sonyfags or falseflaggers, or all at once.
But some people genuinely have problems with this game, it's far from perfect. Some witcherfags take it too close to heart and start attacking people. Witch is why so many people troll this fandom.
>>
>>335678319
Total opposite for me. The politics basically just boiled down to "Temeria good, Redania less good, Nilfgaard literally Nazis." The only reason I gave half a fuck about the political intrigue was Roche, dude's patriotism was infectious.
>>
Just a friendly reminder, it literally IS because it's popular now. back before TW2 came out, /v/ mostly loves the franchise and treated CDProjekt Red like gods. It was even a widespread consensus to not torrent 2.

Flash forward to TW3, and you see some of the most vicious shitposting ever on this board. It's literally just contraionism, shitposters and newfags trying to fit in
>>
>>335678479
>Just a friendly reminder, it literally IS because it's popular now.
Most of the criticism comes from how overrated the game is.

So yes indeed.

no, it was not.
It's the #1 thing that got a lot worse with sequels. That and the UI.

No, there was rampant shitposting before the game even came out. It's because it got popular, nothing else.

No actually, i've seen a large amount of hate for this game and very limited discussion.

/v/ sucks the dick of dark souls, which is actually a fucking shitty game compared to TW3 if you like a mature story and actual consequences; rather than a simple dodge roll and slash game

That's why. Believe me, I've been here long enough to know this place and it's love of contrarianism. If they started making sequels to Vamprie: The Masqerades Bloodline, they were good and in turn made the franchise more popular, /v/ would start to hate it, regardless of quality.

no, you didn't actually enjoy it, you're just an easily entertained subhuman who is ''entertained'' by anything you see and do. the reason you didn't actuall enjoy it, is because you can't enjoy something you don't understand. and in order to understand a directly chronological series like the witcher series, you would've had to start from the beginning.

I wish I didn't. Anjey is a fucking hack, these books are the most cringeworthy shit I've ever read. Games have better writing. Games have better everything.

If you want fantasy, you more or less out of luck, you might try Hard to be a God by Strugatsky bros(Their most known work is Roadside picnic, served as a basis for Stalker. I'd recommend most of their works), it's more of a sci-fi spin on medieval novel genre
If you're fine with sci-fi or similar genres you might want to try classics like Efremov or Belyaev, Nabokov can be categorized as a sci-fi writer(Heart of a Dog).

And I know poles were part of "Soviets". idk if I can categorize Sapkosky as a soviet writer, he started really late.

Sapkowsky enters the scene, drunks as fuck. They offer him a reward, by widow of guy that funded it. He looks around and ask someone.

"Can my friend enter with me?"

They agreed, so he turned to door and yelled. "ALL RIGHT, PEOPLE. TAKE HIM IN!" and bunch of other guys pulled in fucking dead drunk friend of Sapkowski. It was kek as fuck.

>>335679963
Russia is MMO world, devs focus on max revenue instead of making games. There were several Russian games in early 2000, but most of them were Strategies of some kind, mostly because Russians loved dem TBS and RTS.
Right now most Russian games are games like Warface, Warthunder, Allods Online, that new MMO from Nival. No one makes HoMM, Space Rangers, King's Bounty or Silent Storm. No one cares. Dem money are in MMO market. And Russian MMOs players grew up on games like Lineage 2.

Ukrainian market is doing a bit better, but it's mostly GSC and what left of them. Stalker came out, 4A was formed from people who left GSC. Action forms made Vivisector and Cryostasis, but I don't know what happened to them.

Also Ice Pick Lodge.

It was literally the one in the trilogy with the shakiest ideas and poorly implemented mechanics. There were several attempts to turn Strugatsky books into something else. I think there are several movies and games based on Inhabited Island, all of them are bad, which is funny, because it might be the easiest book to adapt into a game or a film. Hard to be a god got a game adaptation and a film adaptation, both are pretty bad. There's also a game based on Hotel, also pretty shit as far as I remember.

Almost none of them made their money back.
Space rangers team fell apart, whole team walked and created Katauri, they made King's Bounty The Legend, now they're making some MMO or DOTA clone. The one guy who held trademark to Elemental Games started his own DOTA clone or MMO or something.
Boiling Point is basically Far Cry 3 before Far Cry 3. Failed miserably. Precursor was Far Cry is space. It failed and the dev Deep Shadow closed.
Same with Parkan. Nikita closed down.
Space Wolf dev Xbow closed as well.
There is also Nival, they made Evil Islands and Allods, they're making DOTA clones and MMOs right now.

Deeps shadow would fit right in with Early Access, bu that's it. These companies were ambitious and focused on PC market with little to no PR campaigns. Many of these games were buggy or niche, doubly so because they were on PC in mid 00s, triply so because finding a good international publisher with real PR support was almost impossible back them for an average Russian dev.

My point PR is cheaper to get now behind project, and quality issues partly would be solved by tech available today for pennies.
They had to make everything themselves back then engine, tools etc.
Now you can make games of that quality with a team of 3 people just by using one of big three engines which are cheap. Proper team will have a field day with ready to sue tools available now.
Look at Outlast(game itself aside) - it was cheap to make because of tech already in the engine.

Poland was never part of the USSR, this is objectively and provably wrong. It was a satellite country.

well, now you have struggling Russian economy, a bunch of disillusioned people, bunch of investors from outside who either don't want or can't invest money due to political or economical reasons, investors from inside the Russia who don't want to risk it, people who make less than 400$ a month and can't afford to risk it themselves, and people who can risk it and have enough expertise, but focus on fleeing from this god forsaken place.
