If these numbers are true I'd say it has to do with marketing. Bloodborne being called bloodborne was stand alone. Only those who knew background information could be sold on it as a souls game.
Splatoon dropped hard because Nintendo finally had a new IP. That alone got a lot of eyes on it. Hell you could even say that song from the advert helped Splatoon to be known.
